GizzoParticipant
Alan, nice picture. I like it and the only thing i’d like is to see little bit (just a little) more colour.
and I find the foreground disturbing compared to the background. It seems too much of a contrast between mess and tranquility.but don’t take my observations as important. It’s just a matter of personal taste. ;)
Not Pete the blokeParticipantAlan, I think it is just fabulous! It just screams ‘cold’ and ‘winter’ at you. If I use the ‘do I wish I had taken it’ test, then the answer is a resounding YES!
Alan RossiterParticipantCheers
Gizzo – how ya doin’ mate! The colours were muted – I dropped the saturation as a little more colour and I’d loose the coldness…and I’m talking only a little more colour. Appreciate the comments.
Ross – Cheers mate. I will probably look at this angle again given Micks comment just to see what looks best. It does require a rework of some nature so now is the time to see what dorection this will take.
Alan.
richiehatchMemberI really like this image just the way it is..! Lovely warm colours on what looks like a bloody friesian mornin’….! Moooooo
Richie
jb7ParticipantAnother vote for the way it is-
Looks like a silver birch top rail,
but it might just be the frost-Good colours too-

DenverDollParticipantAlan!
I did comment on this on your flickr…but I am glad to see it here too.
It is pretty amazing. I wouldn’t change a thing.
At first I thought it caught my eye because it looks so similar to the place I was raised and immediately evoked very positive memories…but the more I looked at it..and really studied it..I realised that I was more attracted to it because it was just plain beautiful.
This is a winner in any competition.
Just my opinion.Shar :D
spudMemberpetercoxMemberAlan –
It’s a great image to be sure. Yes, that banding needs to be taken care of (and make sure it’s not visible in print – sometimes it can happen that banding is not visible on screen but can show up in a print).I agree with Mick about the fence – it’s beautifully captured, but probably superfluous. I think if there wasn’t so much detritus on and around it it would look much better, but as is, it’s very busy.
However, this is a subjective assessment – someone else might find the fence to be the high point of the image. Certainly a shot without the fence just using the river as a lead-in (even a pano, perhaps?) would be very good also.
Cheers,
PeterMr.HParticipantDid this one pop up on rte weather tonight?… if it didn’t someone used your tripod marks Alan.. well done.
Alan RossiterParticipantYup – it was a finalist in the RTE Autumn competition – OK, a bit of licence in calling it Autumn but it was as clase as the train shot for Spring. If you hurry you can catch it at 9.25pm (10 minutes from now).
How long did it take you to find this thread though Gary??
Alan

If it had taken more than 5 mins I would have given up however I was a bit perplexed initially to see the pages down the bottom to be 1, 2, 3…84 85, and figured getting to an estimated page 30 may take some time. So I did a search on “frost wonka” an you came up on the second page.
richiehatchMemberYeah seen it too and thought it looked familiar..! Its a fantastic shot…

aoluainParticipantHi Alan,
Beautiful picture, it just proves early morning photography can yeild some fantastic light.
I cannot find fault with it except for the rotation and the banding as rob said.
I love the mood here and any viewer can really connect with this picture.
Classic landscape and exposed very well.
