Out of curiosity, do Garda photographers have to use film over digital? I remember reading a while back that using digital in speed cameras was controversial and might be unconstitutional or something like that.
I feel that digital has become more acceptable than it was. Back in say 2003 when I changed over first to digital I still had to do all the legal photography on film (in case I manipulated it !!! ???) but now for the past two years all my legal stuff is on digital but I also give a signed statement that it has been un-touched or changed. I am also on standby in case I’m needed in court but so far never been called up.
In the Garda job one will need to be able to develop and print colour and B&W film but then there is a huge archieve of case stuff from years back that may be needed at anytime if a case gets re-called or appealed and maybe that is the reason.
Then again it would not surprise me at all if film is the norm.
I’m not really into portraits or poeple photography…..
I think it could still be pretty interesting, from a technical side (not just photography).
I see what you mean. I happened to be out on Wed night with a bunch of photographers for a Christmas Party. One young girl there though the job might be a great opportunity to be more creative and a few even agreed !!! LOL. I think we had a lot of drink at the time though as I only saw the funny side of what she said next day. Amazing what one word can do !
