I think its a good exercise in controlling your depth of field Pete, but as a shot it doesn’t work for me. I do think that you made a good choice compositionally, but the subject is lacking, the colour and texture of the pipe aren’t enough to hold interest for me personally ..

Thanks Lorraine, I totally agree there isn’t alot to keep the interest in the shot. I’d say I’ve been influenced a little the past couple of days by http://www.jpegmag.com . You should check it out, some nice images on there if you spend the time to look.
They have several themes running at the minute and I’ve been seeing alot of shots like these while browsing though the site.

I would’ve maybe gotten a bit closer into the bar… but shots like this are VERY hard to make interesting (I’ve tried quite a bit).
I like the stong composition – this is the sort of shot that I might try in the future, but… I find the yellow bar on the left hand site of the image + strong out of focus highlights distracting to the point where there is an unwanted tension in the image. There is something there that I just can’t put my finger on. However it is a good ‘Lomo’ image
