Yellow field with black sky.

I spotted this composition near where I live a few weeks back and felt that it might look good with a stormy sky as a background combined with sunlit field and trees. For a few moments last Sunday evening it got close then the hailstones came again.

    Thanks for looking.

    John.

2 Walls are better than 1! I agree with Mike.

We usually see these against blue skies, but this works for me on many levels.

I really like the black sky, it seems to make the yellow pop even more,
well spotted, the skies have been amazing the last week or so!

Many thanks to Mike, Des and Jenny for taking the time to reply.

I have on occasion seen trees lit by low light with a thundery sky behind and the trees really stood out against the black sky.
I thought this might work with this scene.
I had to take it from a slightly lowish viewpoint as there are some building etc which I thought interupted the simple composition.

See below a wide view which shows the whole scene.

    I appreciate your comments.

I think the wider shot is even more impressive, you wouldnt really notice
    the buildings.

    Thanks Jenny.
A few others have said the same.
And you know I only took it so I could show the scene where I got the 1st image.

    Cheers,

    John.

John, this is a very stricking image, the black sky works very well and I feel the first image works much better than the wider shot.

Both are very impressive John. Although the sky is more interesting in the 2nd shot, I feel the 1st one has a lot more impact as the trees are more of a focal point. I take a lot of my landscapes in portrait and I wonder if this would also have worked with the closer shot i.e. including the yellow foreground, 3/4 trees and a decent chunk of that dramatic sky? Just a thought. Regardless, I wish I’d taken these

    Hi Noel,

Thanks very much for your comments.

The telephoto image was the one I was after and I took the wider one as reference shot.

I’m glad you like it too.

    Cheers,

    John.

    Hi Mark,

Very interesting comments and the portrait idea would definitely be worth a try.
The field is close so if similar conditions happen over the weekend I’ll have a go.

I too think the sky is more interesting in #1.

I really like simple images that have only a few elements.
With #1 I was trying to compose it with just the 3 elements as in black, yellow and trees.

Your kind comments are much appreciated.

    John.
