I didn’t think I had a shot of one of these fellas/gals but I was running though the archives a day or two ago and found this:
DenverDollParticipantOh that is adorable. She looks to be just marching along so happily.
Gorgeous shot.Alan RossiterParticipantYou forgot you had this????
Spare me!
Do you have any more like this that you “forgot”?
Alan.
positronMemberAliParticipantI think it’s time to check out your recycle bin Aidan :) Bird is so vibrant and as Sharon said, looks to be so happy plodding along :D
joe_elwayParticipantThanks folks!
The forgetting … sometimes you just get a bout of great light and things seem to work out for me. Or sometimes I get fixated with a shot that I really want to save. I tend to process each photo uniquely unless the light matches over and over. It’s time consuming and well…. nuts. I’ve a memory like a goldfish so …. what was I saying? When I first looked at this one I didn’t think it had much. I thought it was soft and the exposure wasn’t so good. I’ve been trying different PS things as of late and figured I could do something with it.
These Yellowhammers are hilarious to watch up close. They’re drawn in to the area under the feeders where seed and bits of peanuts have fallen loose onto the ground. They’ll pick something up in their beaks which is often too big for them to swallow. You can see into their mouths and it appears they are licking it or trying to “chew” until they’ve consumed their prize. For about 5 seconds they’re just looking around while their mouth is trapped open with a piece of food.
But they appear to have figured out my hide. They know that something isn’t right. They usually spend most of their time staring at the lens which is barely protruding through the mesh.
I’d love to get one up on a branch like my recent efforts with the Chaffinch and Greenfinch but they tend to stay in the heart of the tree so they can quietly approach the food on the ground.
Must now go back to my library and see if I have any Goldfinches!
RobMemberbethParticipantexcellent color and detail. i love this one. i never could get a decent small bird shot, they’re too quick for me and my attention span is too short to wait for them to calm down.. so congrats on getting this little guy so still.
