Yet another one of Beth

First, let me thank everyone that took the time to look at and comment on, the two images I posted of Beth earlier on. Apologies for not responding to your posts before now – I’ve been preoccupied with other things. But all the responses I’ve received have been well beyond anything I expected to read about these images – in truth, I myself can see no end of major flaws in the images and I did initially hesitate about posting them as I felt they didn’t do Beth’s beauty justice!

Given that the response was so positive, I thought you might like to see another image from that particular shoot, so here you go. And although it’s technically far from perfect, I really like it myself, principally because of the eye contact. Once again this was taken at the same venue with now window light, just whatever was available from the ceiling lights and bouncing off the walls from the modelling lights of the studio flash units. I didn’t do any skin softening on this image but did create a highlight biased softening to the overall image. Not because there is any fault in Beth’s skin (it’s flawless!) but as a means of evening out the contrast of the available light. Some may not like this but personally I think it adds to the overall image. In any case, depth of filed would have been very shallow seeing as I was shooting wide open at f/2.8 (camera on tripod and Beth remained perfectly still, not once moving out of the plane of focus – an amazing model!)

BTW – there have been a lot of interesting posts on here in the last few days and I intend to respond to some, if not all of them in the course of the next two days or so.

Your photos of Beth are amazing in their ability to portray her beauty, especially of her eyes. I love the effect here of the shallow depth of field and I would hope that some day that I will be competent enough to approach this level of portraiture.

    Hi Thorsten
I hope you gave Beth some of these images as they are possibly the best i have seen of her so far, even though the standard of images on her website is top notch! You would be surprised that a single image can sway a possible client say for future modelling work.

The lighting is super cant believe you got such stunning results,to be honest i’m not a fan of the softning of the image but i am surprised to see that you are so hard on yourself regarding technique etc -Man if i only had something of this standard on my work history i’d be well chuffed. :D

Another nice one Thorsten, What a good model too-
Lovely quality to this one, its a grower…
I’d consider rotating cw to make the backround vertical, tho it works either way-

Hey I am going to hi-jack Thorsten’s post just to say thanks to all of you, especially Thortsen, who have left amazing comments about the images of me. I must admit he has taken some gorgeous pictures and I will hopefully be working with him again soon. He is a very easy guy to work with and like, and puts a model at ease. I feel like I have a degree of control over my images too – where they are used, if I want anything changing or altering etc etc which is nice as a model doesn’t often have that opportunity. I would also like to say the lighting was horrendous and to get these images out of that day is just F**ing amazing!!!

So thanks Thor. and all you others out there in photography ireland!

Hello Beth, not only have you hijacked Thorsten’s thread,
but you’ve done it on your first post-
Which means that I’ve now got to hijack it in order to welcome you to the site-

Great work there Beth, and it looks like hard work, from the description I’ve read-
though none of that comes across in the pictures.

Hope to see some more of you in the future,
and not just as a model,
maybe you’ve got some pictures to post,
or some comments to make on some of the other pictures-

    enjoy your stay here, and
    welcome aboard-

Well I cannot have you hi-jacking my hi-jacked thred

Thanks for your comments….Ummm it hasn’t been easy and in life I have had to fight tooth and nail to get where I am at but work wise it is grand! I have been very lucky with who I have worked with and offers that have come my way. Thanks for saying my ‘problems’ don’t come across on camera it is hard work but VERY important to me that you cannot see my ‘problems’. I am working for all the NORMAL girls out there!!!

It is nice to be on a friendly forum actually! ha ha ha thought I have heard you guys are critical too so bring it on, that is why we are here – to learn! As for commenting on other photographers work…I am no expert and I don’t pretend to be but I know what I like and what I don’t and I am getting better at spotting flaws in lighting etc…though I would never go down that route. I think I would be out of my depth!! Still we will see!

    Thanks again Take it EZ

I actually only meant to say the modellilng itself, and holding the pose, and the look, under the difficult lighting, while being photographed, but there is the whole other thing as well-

    well done-

Hi not Hi-jacking of anything here, Thorsten another cracking post and it is brilliant that the model (Hi Beth) can come on this forum and comment for themselves. Boy there is some talent on this forum and I ain’t talking photographers
Thorsten keep them coming and Beth keep up the good work.
