Hi Lads,
i am planing a two or three day trip to the area of sligo and donegal.
my main aim is to get a few shots of Fanad head lighthouse. Any other great spots in the area to make my trip a great one? i don’t know the area at all.

There is Loads of places in Donegal, you would need more than a few days LOL, it’s such a lovely county. I’ll name a few that may be of interest.
Slieve League is spectacular and Glencolumcille close by.
Ardara and the Maghery Caves
Temple Arch at Horn Head near Dunfanaghy
Atlantic Drive near Downings.
The Poisoned Glen in Dunlewey. Nearby cLimb Mount Errigal (1hr climb) and get great views from up there if it’s clear.
Knockalla Coast Road close to Portsalon (Your near Fanad Lighthouse here)
Glenveagh Castle and it’s Gardens (Check out the Bridal Path – it’s a great walk)
Oakfield House in Raphoe-Nice Gardens.
In inishowen , Mamore Gap near clonmany , Ballyliffen, Malin Head. There really are loads of oppurtunities, these are a few that might help you and you’ll not be disappointed. (Bypass Sligo and it’ll give you more time here  )
jodal1975Participantin the sligo area you have:
knocknarea mountain/strandhill beach
benbulben mountain ( which you cant miss its on your way to donegal)
ladies brae ( skreen)
mullaghmore beach ( + castle ) / cliffoney beach
glencar waterfall and surrounding areas
and basically any left turn down to the ocean off the main sligo to donegal rd !!! :-) you’ll know what i mean once you get up here !! :-)jodal1975Participantand don’t listen to damianc , he’s hoping you’ll visit donegal because your probably the only tourist they will get this year
jaybeeParticipantHow far into Donegal are you going?
There is an amazing abandoned village called Port (pronounced purt) just north of Glencolumbkille…. In what is supposedly the least populous area in western Europe….
En route there you have Glen Head, Silver Strand….
I’d avoid the poisoned glen at this time of year, unless you really enjoy being eaten alive by midges the size of hamsters!!
