You’re a star, Ms. Flower!

Spent the afternoon at the Botanic Gardens, wandering aimlessly and taking some shots when I saw something nice. Came away with around 40 images on the memory card… and this is my favourite. Possibly. Ok, one of my favourites then.

I have no idea what it looks like from the front, but from behind, I just love it – looks like someone with some scrunched up tissue paper and a pair of sharp scissors was bored one day… 8)

Hope you like it – but whether you do or not, please let me know…

PS – Lorraine – see!? My second image, before my 200th post! My 100:1 ratio is improving :-) Might even post another one tomorrow! ;-)

Nice one Dave. Something quite bizarre about the composition and whatever treatment you’ve given it, but it works. Cool. 8)

Thanks Rob – absolutely no processing, bar working with the raw image and applying the usual settings. i.e. I didn’t blur anything or post-process in any significant way. That’s kinda why I like it too :-)

Great looking little flower. Couple issues I have with the image though:

    – I would have liked it a bit better if you had a bit more DOF, so that the stem of the flower was in focus as well. At the moment, only the front petals (well, the backs of them) are in focus, and I think it’d work a bit better if the whole flower was in focus (the background could still easily be out of focus
    – the bright out of focus bits to the right of the image are really distracting. Takes my eye away from the main image, which is supposed to be the flower.

That’s it though… I’m curious what kind of flower this is!

Thanks antifuse… the comments are much appreciated, and have made me look at this image more critically. I can only agree. Shame about the narrow DOF perhaps – in some ways I think it’s nice, in others not – and I might try burning the background on the right to take the emphasis away from that area of the pic.

Hope to upload one or two more I took that day, perhaps this evening… see what you think of those!

    Thanks again,
    D.
