very nice.. love the compositions, one thing I would say is that the skin is very red/pink especially in the first photo quick fix in photoshop :)

it does for me. now the first thing i see is the sharp eye. which is also the subject of the picture.
the second eye is now less important part of the image. i don’t mind it been out of focus, and agree with you that you shouldn’t be front on.
the highlight, in that out of focus eye is really annoying tho. clone it out and put a fake one smaller and less annoying :)

Ya gotcha now that you said it I see it and its ll that catches my attention :)

i like the sharpeness and details of the sharp eye.
    i like the lighting
i don’t like the crop as it is, with nose tip cut.
try and flip it horizontally, i think the composition will improve slightly.

    This is it flipped better?

As the eyes are the subject of the image I think both eyes should be sharp. Alternatively angle the shot so that only one eye is visible or have the subject turn towards you so get both eyes on the same plane. This shot is kind of “between 2 steps” for me if you know what I mean. Also the highlights on the cheek, the tip of the nose and between the eyebrows are very distracting.

The eye which is in focus is perfectly sharp so you have the makings of a good shot. Just try different positions.

Hi I did try just to get 1 eye but it did look right and if i had her facing me i dont think there would be anything interesting with the composition.. ya i didnt like the highlights either.

Shot No.1 for me, the exposure is superb for my taste. And the table and backdrop provide 2 potential stories.

Thank you :) ya its its my fav of the 3 :)

I like the lines and structures in no. 2.

No. 3 is suffering (slightly) from the dreaded converging verticals. The bright blue sky provides a powerful backdrop.

thanks for the comment, I had to google converging verticals lol Ill know from now on to look for that :)

    Cheers Richie,

I was actually undecided when I put this post up but in the meantime have decided that I needed me head examined!

17-40L all the way, no need for a test drive, but thanks for the de offer.

    John.

Hi I know this is an old post but just saw it now, I was deciding on a new lens to buy and was deciding between the same 2 lenses and have now decided to go with the 15-85mm and I am getting it in the next week, now you have me thinking have I made the right decision lol I mean from what I have read IQ on both lenses are very close 17-40 slightly has it but not by much and obviously better build seeing as its an L, but 15-85 seems like the better choice for crop body, if your not going to be changing to FF soon. More of an all round lens good build varied aperture but doesn’t bother me, why did u say you need your head examined lol ? do u know something I don’t.. how are you finding the lens anyway ? do you have a link where I can see images you have taken with it?

Yeah, its always great to see something different and people using their imagination as well as showing the power of PS. Personally I think this would be a great album cover for someone like Zeppelin or Sabbath.

Theres an awful lot of “…same old, same old….” up here these days

    Excellent work and imagination.
