Would second the D7000. Really is a joy to use with fantastic low light performance for a cropped sensor camera. The video isn’t quite as good as the 7D I’m led to believe from talking to mates who have used both but all in all am really happy with mine. Can pick up a lightly used body relatively cheaply too leaving some cash for glass.
Re orientation had little choice :s my beloved mother in law wanted a portrait style one as she has a ‘women of the family gallery all in portrait format (there’s some serious looking women in that gallery I can tell you. Don’t think they have cracked a smile in five generations) You’re right though – looking at it now, it’s somewhat abnormal (orientation not the baby I hope)
Good point re over exposed. I generally like overblown portraits as like the focus to be on the eyes but think in this one left the skin too dark with lips overexposed and barely visible. May practice more methinks
I think “wow” just about covers all that needs to be said :)
It’s one of things I miss about living up the side of a hill in the middle of nowhere (well Wexford)…you can actually see the night sky properly. Always used to feel awed by it as a kid
Around this time last year was taking some evening shots around the IFSC where I work when got stopped by a security guard around the Harbourmaster pub. Was going ballistic, shouting that it’s illegal take photos in that district. Never had any problems with the guards in that area seeing as they you know, actual crime, to look into.
It’s my understanding that while there is no law specifically stating where you can or cannot take photos, the gardai and/or military can legally ask you to move along if they believe you are causing an obstruction. Depends on chracter of guard I guess but standing around taking tons of photos of military installations and garda stations could lead you to being pulled up :D
