A photography forum from Singapore – it’s quite an active forum and they have price lists of gear which are useful. Also you can get a list of recommended camera shops there.
You can email them for quotes which they will honour for up to a month. At least they did something like that when I was there in 2006.
They’re great to deal with. They’re not in Sim Lim Square, might be Peninsula Plaza, can’t recall exactly. But easy to find from with the underground and they’re near another shop called Alan Photo I think.
Get ready to deal with some serious *ssh*les if you try haggling with some people. A guy in Sim Lim Square got really annoyed with me after I tried haggling with him after he gave me an terrible quote for some rechargeable batteries.
I don’t think Nikon offer warranties outside the country in which the camera is sold. All lenses have international warranties but cameras are another matter. Just something important to bear in mind.
Hope that’s all of some use.
Alan
p.s. I’d second Brendan’s recommendation to check the prices of gear in the UK or here – I’d bring a list with me even. And don’t forget about the VAT when you get home – factor it into your calculations so you don’t feel to stung if you do get caught out.
I use a D200 too. Surprised to see it as the most popular.
I’m very happy with it but plan on buying the D400 or whatever the next replacement for the D300s is called.
Looking at the D7000’s specs, the D400 is going to be very impressive.
I don’t actually need to upgrade but I’d like higher ISO reach, better noise handling, better autofocus and more megapixels (12 or 14 would be fine but the more the merrier really). I also would love a movie mode – just for fun, stills will still be my priority.
I asked at Calumet before about second hand and the guy said they rarely did second hand but might occasionally if they did a trade in or something. I wouldn’t fancy your chances of getting 2nd hand stuff there.
I’m sure they lease equipment to anyone with a credit card!
I’ve used them before with no problems – they accepted a credit card from me.
I wouldn’t imagine you won’t get your money back. It should be no problem once you contact your credit card handlers – Mastercard/Visa etc.
Is it possible that the money has come up on your online credit card statement but will be reinstated in a couple of days – that’s happened to me before.
Anyway, fingers crossed that you’ll get your dough back.
I don’t really know what I’m doing but I’m in as EattheFootballPitch.
Bring it on!
Anyone want to give a few tips on how this works? I remember NFL saying you need to keep up to date with the substitutions etc. so you’re maximising your points. Sounds like a lot of effort.
