Hi,
I think its key to get the house and the bridge in so as much as i like the b&w(apart from the lack of detail as already said in the house) it can’t really win out. I like the first but the foreground is messy (as said) and the house looks distorted which is a shame. the house looks undistorted in no.2. i like the crop idea to remove the bushes.
if there was any other angle you could get to narrow the distance from house to bridge, to compress with a zoom to get them both nearer together. maybe from the other side of the river? all in all though they are nice shots. maybe gausian blur the foreground and bits around the sides?
nice shots. The first is very blue but the house lights look right so that must have been the actual colour. Nice misty water.
You used two exposures in the second shot I suppose – its well done.
With the high contrast it looked like an interesting shot so I’m happy with it, thanks. I used my 90-300 canon f4.5-5.6 lens at 90mm aperture f4.5 at 1/125 ISO-100 spot metered on the face of the guy on the left, locked it in, then recomposed the shot. I sharpened it up using unsharp mask in PS.
I really like it. Great to see such a cosmopolitan photo can be taken in Dublin. I wonder if a half stop lower would better suit it, but I tend to underexpose a bit so take no notice of me!
Thanks for the feedback. I like to take shots just of the horizon. It allows me to just gaze at it and daydream. Its not everyones thing and I appreciate that. I used my 17-35mm L lens at f22 and stacked three filters: ND2, ND4 ND8 to slow it all down. I forgot my remote shutter so i just used mirror lock up and a gentle hand on the shutter! I wondered if the lighthouse was too small so well spotted.
Emmet,
I like panos, i try them now and then myself. i checked out the bigger one on flicker and as said its still a bit small to appreciate. the moon has a black square around it as far as i can see. there are some white lines on the bottom left. its great that some landmarks are visible. The bottom left of the scene is too dark. Did you vary the focal length across the images – if so i think thats not a great idea.I think you are taking it from the wrong place, i.e. i think the composition is wrong. St finbarrs, Shandon and the North Chapel are the three landmarks but they are not in any pleasing symmetry. All to the right of the chapel is uninteresting. you need a better vantage point but that said, kudos for the effort.
Thanks for the replies. I am going through a dark b&w phase at the moment, its tough to lighten them up but i know it makes sense. i agree with the comments on the last shot, it started out very flat and i wanted to jazz it up a bit with darker areas here and there but i can see it looks overcooked. I’m just using gradient maps in CS4 to process these as they add some drama to skies.
