Hi David
The rock bottom would be 450 Sterling.
You would need to arrange your own deliver or collection though.
I’ll get the photos up tomorrow if you’re still interested.

Hi M and Em.
I noticed a photography franchise who seem to be expanding rapidly in the Norths shopping centres also 0ffering prints at €5, I’d imagine that people then purchase more products to make this viable, or perhaps they have so much uptake that a high turnaround makes a profit. Heres a thought, Maybe we could take the notion of bringing studios to peoples or community centres by getting mums to organise house parties giving the hosts free prints and charging other guests? A bit like Avon or tuppaware parties.
One problem I always come across is that when I offer so many prints for a certain price and show people the choices in the proofing gallery, they normally always want all the other surplus prints for NOTHING!! they figure if the photos of their family are there anyhow then why do I not want to give it to them? Of course when they’re told they have to buy them they don’t get them. Recently I undertook some work for a shop and outlined in advance that they could have a set amount of photos for a set price but anything over this would have to pay another rate…I showed them 125 images in total, they were very pleased with result and after choosing the 25 blatantly asked if I could give them the rest!!!
I drew their attention to the agreement in as nice as way as possible and offered a reduced priced but got strong impression with the tone of their email that they were not too happy….needless to say they didn’t purchase any of the rest. Its very frustrating but I suppose I will have to re-look at my pricing.
“I find it helps when I explain the difference in quality of papers and products also, as you will find that alot of peole don’t really know the difference, so they pop into the local fuji shop and see a canvas print for a third the price a good quality canvas really costs. And they think you’re overcharging”.

Unfortunately it does seem that price over quality is a big factor.
I produce Giclee exhibition quality archive canvas hand stretched on gallery frames and finally varnished as part of our own photography packages but also for customers bringing in their own photo’s and artwork, we also work with photographers.
Great pains are taken to explain the quality of the product but we’re finding that as well as contending with a spate of photo to canvas businesses springing up all over the place and offering dare I say inferior products they are doing so at prices we can’t compete with. We have seen customers (including some photographers) are definately factoring price over quality, but on the plus side we are however starting to get a lot of returning customers, disappointed people bringing in work they bought or commissioned cheaper elsewhere to be re-stretched or if its their own art reproductions or photo reprinted completely, by the time they do this they would have been better of paying for our product in the first place. Ah well c’est la vie.
I’m just hoping people keep talking about Swine flu so they forget to talk about credit crunch!
Thanks for c&c, I’m dipping my toes in here and look forward to all advice and comments.
the thing in the water is a scaunch, (phonetically) I know thats probably not how its spelt but I’ve never seen the word written down…I think its used for shooting season,
they’re a common sight around the shoreline here.
Maybe, I’ll get a chance to go out to it sometime for a more bird friendly shoot. :)

Hi Emma,
just want to add to Michella’s very good advice, I wouldn’t completely dish your fliers,
If you put some effort into the design of the flier and directly target your market place rather than just posting fliers everywhere you could possibly get some good results. I think developing a niche is a good way to go as it lets you hone down who you want to target. For example, If you specialise in photographs of children or maternity shots you could direct target the maternity units, nursery schools, mothers and toddlers, playgroups etc….It would (as Michella suggested) be a good idea if your flier could double up as a discount voucher as unfortunately there definately is a downturn in public spending, …but generally people still want to spend money on their kids so it is a matter of making sure its you they’re coming to ….
Don’t forget gift vouchers may also be a way of generating income, you can also look at running a competition in association with a local newspaper that way you can get some free advertising.
Good to see you’re working on a web presence, put a little work into your search words…I find a lot of my business comes through customers that have been directed to my site through Yell.com.
Hope this helps and if you find any foolproof fantastic way to drive people to you.. please share…!

Seriousily, I’d love to come along but it would probably be on an ad hoc basis,
I’m down in Tyrone this weekend but might get to next one.
I’m not sure what the deal is though, do you just turn up, do you bring your camera?
do you have to know all about physics, maths and technical stuff?
Or do I stand up and ‘hi, I’m a chocoholic?
Thank you all for your good wishes. I hope all your hearts desires come true in 09.
I will resolutlely be a good member

perhaps all who voted should vote again but this time just between the joint leaders?
A cut off time would probably be needed for all to register? Just a suggestion
Hi all thought this may be of interest
This is over a year old but caused quite a stir for flickr at the time. In short Icelandic Photographer Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir realised an English company ‘Only Dreeming’ had stolen and sold her images (now Canvas Republic). The result was outrage from Flickr community which quickly turned to outrage at how the Flickr admin dealt with situation. The flip side..Rebekka has become quite renown out of it all.
Have just joined and am probably far too late… but for future info, We have a small studio in Derry, Resolution Art and our aim is to rent it out to photographers.
