wow, didn’t realise i created such a stir! I must apologise though… On reflection, my opinions were too harsh, and i should not have used the judgemental terminolgy i used. Sorry folks.
However, i still believe that any worthwhile entrant in this competition should leave
there image still within the realm of photography rather than graphic art. I hope
entrants try to do this, and that voters vote on this basis. Does anyone agree with this
(minus the judgemental harshness)?
I’m sorry, but this competition is a complete joke. Perhaps the problem is with the purpose of the competition not being clearly outlined. Surely the idea is to enhance a photo, but still keep it as a believable photo, not a piece of art or graphic design.
I got no votes, and yea I know people will call me a whinger. I am not saying mine is the best, but if you took my effort and the first place and secong place into ANY photography studio in Ireland and asked their preference, i can guarantee that 100% of them would choose mine.
Its clear to me that the majority of quality photographers on this forum do not venture into the photoshop challenge to either compete or vote. I don’t want to kick up a fuss for no reason though, I have a suggestion…
Could we have a judging panel? People who actually have a professional understanding?
I’m fed up having a few hours work overlooked by children who are instead attracted to bright colours and custom effects.
The only think I would say and is good advice for everyone else. The Bride loves her dress more than even her groom. be very careful not to lose the detail in it with brightening and contrast adjustments…
apart from that, good work!
nice photoshop Mick, but I do disagree with the result. I’m puzzled you won so comfortably. For me, it seems quite washed out, and you have lost all detail in the hair. I know this will be an unpopular post, but I hope it comes across as positive critique. We won’t all agree i guess!
lovely shot, and the clouds help to draw your eye into the central foremost hill. It seems a little dull though. Maybe just personal taste. The shy is fine, maybe if the green in the foreground was pulled out a bit more it would give more impact to the sunlight hitting it…
Definatly in colour for me. Have you altered the sky? It looks great, but something tells me it isn’t exactly how you shot it. Is this the ‘Orton Effect’ you talk about? What is that btw?
Thanks for the feedback folks. My personal favourite is number three, I love the darkness and msytery to it. I think number 6 is a good shot, but its a bit typical i think. I mean theres got to be hundredss of ‘waves crashing on piers’ photos in the country let alone the world. I guess I felt it was just too predictable which is maybe why I went a bit far with the processing. I must have been trying to make it stand out more. But I do concede, the colour of the sky is not ideal. Here is the ammendment…
