not handheld, but on a cheap tripod i’ve had for a year or so, used in slightly windy conditions well not really windy but it was enough to shift/vibrate the camera ever so slightly during long exposures, this one was 5 seconds, i think, also i’m sure i used the customs house dome as the focus point for the AF in shutter priority mode… i’ve only had my DSLR since ealry feb so have yet to invest in a proper stable tripod, i’m hoping to pick one up in the next few weeks along with a proper flash gun. why do i always go for the expensive hobbies…. :)
thanks for the feedback, i’m going to have a go at making a HDR image from this, not sure if it’ll work as i’ll be adjusting the exposure levels in the RAW file and outputting the various exposures as JPG for HDR processing in PS:CS4 Portable, the theory in my head works. should be interesting as i’m only learning HDR Processing, but i had a quick go at a 5 image HDR merge today and i was impressed with the results i got just moving a slider after the merge to adjust the exposure of the final image. i can see how easy it is to get carried away with it though and completely screw up the colours
Criticism, WooHoo!!! :) i’m in the right place, “no more that’s lovely”, “oh, i like that” and so on :) yes it’s my favorite pic, but it’s great to finally get honest opinions. For now i’ll crop and repost the new image, and later when my ND filters arrive i’ll go down and retake it. The main reason i kept the buildings low is i’m coming from a landscape painting background and having buildings in the sky felt unnatural to me :P but it’s time to break the bad habits before they take hold too much.
Thanks J, and cheers for explaining the starburst effect.
