Hey Dimy , great shots :). Lovely dramatic sky and great settings. Some images look a tad soft and others look a tad over sharpened so i would wonder about the print quality :?: Have you printed any yet ?
Yeah I printed them and they look fabulous, but it’s only 10x15cm. I didn’t make any large prints of them yet, but that’s maybe something for later. I am quite fond of exessive use of contrast and shadow/hightlights, but that’s just my personal preferred style :)
very nice Dimy, love the tones. Did you use an overlay on these?
For both images I used a similar processing style. I merged a B&W, Colour and Sepia layer with the B&W and Sepia layers at reduced opacity. And of course some more contrast.
Holland… mushrooms…I see… well, no I am not implying anything… Amsterdam.. who said Amsterdam?!!! :D
Interesting DOF, everything in focus between the camera and the subject, and very strong burring immediately after the subject. I like the third one the most. I am kinda hoping to buy that lens to be honest (is all what I can afford now..)
Oh you won’t be disappointed, it’s a good lens for the money. I just needed more range at the time and it was all I could afford as well. I’m not trying to complain about the lens, it served me well… (and still does).
Nice clear fungi, but a bit highly-coloured for me, so that they seem a bit artificial, as though for a stage setting.
What’s going on in #4 top right. Makes my eyes go funny [more than usual]
That’s the result of a cheap lens unfortunately… :( (I used a Sigma 70-300 APO for these shots in MACRO setting. I’m getting similar distortions on other shots with the same lens.
I kinda like high saturation and a lot of contrast, you’ll see it in most of my portfolio. I know not everybody likes that, but it’s just personal preference.
Very good job considering you were using that Sigma which wouldnt be the best for the AF demands of fast cars.
Thanks for the comments, the AF is indeed very slow…. I was actually using manual focus… I focused my camera before the shot, panned the car and clicked when the car reached the spot I focused on. It’s a useful workaround for a slow lens… :)
Hey Ali, I signed up on this forum some months ago but never posted here. As boards was down this morning I had an excuse to come here :)
I’m a huge motorsports fan but this was the first time I took pictures of a motorsports even with a SLR camera. For next year I’ll bring myself a monopod though, it was difficult doing handheld… a faster lens would help as well, but don’t have the budget yet ;-) I did these with the cheapo Sigma 70-300 APO.
