how do these agencies work?.. ive covered artists like neyo and lady ga ga and ive attended big fires and crashes and photgraphed them but never sent away pics.
do these agencies buy the news pics off you and then the papers buy them off the agency?..
I don’t know much about the pop up flash because I use an external one but if you play around with white balance and the flash exposure compensation settings you should yield some results. Check the manual and google is your friend!!
Yes i agree with the charging proper by the book prices but in this day and age you must take into account other factors, temporary factors relating to the present, i am amature.. the lead guy is a friend, ther gettin 100euro a gig between three of them. to charge 250 for 5 pics so they can make a poster is a bit harsh. im not as strong as most of you, i wouldnt feel good charging that much to a new band struggling.. i work for clubs and pubs from time to time and i have no problem charging them proper fees because they can afford it. at the same time i dont want to make a name for being a handy cheap photographer..
This is the type of photography I do. I work in bars & clubs and from my short expierience so far i find the best combo is low fstop medium shutter speed and a soft flash. The result is: you can clearly see the subjects, when they look at themselves on your website they’l want to see ther faces, use a difuser to soften the flash..ive even seen photographers put cloth over the flash to soften it haha.. due to the low fstop and medium shutter speed you still include the club lights and atmosphere..
Thanks Ballyman.. id love to charge that but for a new band in todays harsh climate its prob too much.. when i work for bars i usually do an hour or two at 50euro an hour cause they can afford it.
Ashley, thanks for your reply..
Does leaflets and posters get put under the media of print.. and when you they want to use pics on a website and a myspace is that also just put under the “internet” heading?.. territory would be ireland. length of use would be under a year.
Should i make a contract?.. get them to sign it?.. i suppose it would be good practise. hes a buddy so i was thinking 50euro.. as its my first shoot uno.
also regards copyrights.. when i give them the pics(probably 5) do i still own the rights or do i sell the rights to them?.. uno?..
Thanks a mill for all the replies lads.. really appriciate all the feedback.
i didnt know boosting the ISO would help sharpen pics?… from everything ive read on ISO…all the talk of noise ect, i always try keep it as low as possible uno… perhaps i should give the higher numbers a go…
Using a canon 400d so im pleased with the results.
Thanks a mill for replying..appriciate feedback. it was hard to take pics even tho he wasnt moving..the stage lights were harsh and coupled with the smoke and the piano being in the way it made for difficult work..
