I can recommend the Digital Beginners courses to you, I have done three with Dave over the last year and all were both very informative and great fun. With Dave there is no such thing as a stupid question and you also get homework to do each week, which I found forced me to use my camera more and also think more about what I was taking and the options I was using.
Regarding your creaked LCD the best Iwould suggest is you bring it into one of the shops around town and they should at least be able to get a quote for its repair.
I would agree with some of the previous replys and suggest going with the D80 and get better lenes. I was at a talk by a pro PJ awhile ago and he said he buys the canon equivilent of the D80 rather than the more expensive bodies in their range and uses the money saved to buy better lenses
I bought a Cable remote for D200 from them and had no problem. I know someone else who ordered a Sony Flash unit and they received it in less than a week.
I would certainly concider the D80 an excellent camera. I have the D200 myself and have had the D70s. There is an interesting comparison between the D80 & D200 & D2Xs on the Grays of Westminister (Nikon only camera shop in London) website if you want to get more info.
I have seen a comparison report between the D80 and the relevant Canon, Samsung and Pentax (I think) in a recent (may still be the current edition) of one of the Photography magazines and it rated the D80 as the best value thought it was not the cheapest of the test group.
I have Simon Stafford’s book on the D200 and have found it useful. It is a handy size (page size) for carrying with you.
I got it in Waterstone’s in Dublin for about 20 euro. I know it is also available on Amazon cheaper. I also have the PIP Guide to the D200 which I got from amazon.
As a fairly recent member myself I would like to say welcome and confirm what has been said by others about reading the manual and related books.
Here are some books I would recommend for your camera, I have used the D70 and D200 versions of these and found them very helpful. In the case of the Simon Stafford book this is about the same size (dimensions) as your Manual and would fit easily in a camera bag, while the other 2 are a bit bigger. All 3 are listed on Amazon.
Excellent article Gerry, and the points can be applied to so many other areas of work. You could have written the article yourself as it bears our what you said in a previous post about about pricing a job that it is better to price high than low.
