Very scary biscuits but I hope to be getting a camera from america (via ebay) which means I might even be selling my FM10 – it was my first camera – I love it like a baby – how pathetic are we photographers! Anyway – new landlords come in and uped the rent by 40% so we hafta move and it’s all madness and mayhem here so basically yeah I have two nikon film cameras and lots of other darkroom equipment even one of those jobies that tell you the right exposure and aperature for your neg to print – never used it so if you’re looking for anything let me know and hopefully I’ll either have it or know someone who does!
Happy photographing!
Loads of luck to you all – oh my nikon FM is currently on sale on ebay for 69.99 or best offer (I’ll take lower unfortunately I need the cash) so keep your eyes open!
Take care!
Yeah I always used TCD darkroom – if you know anyone that goes they can usually squeeze you in – and are open all the time, pretty much! Otherwise I only know of temple bar or the camera club on camden st. – probably a bit late telling you this now anyway!
Hope you found somewhere!
I always liked fuji neopan – thought it was slightly less grainy than say Ilford HP5. But shop around – some folks can really stick it you on prices for B&W film cos it’s almost “specialised” now!!!
Gunn’s is best – 3euro ish!
When you can a film processed it’s the same a any camera even a disposable thing – you get the fixed negs, a contact sheet and prints!
Where abouts do you live – I really only know Dublin or Belfast!!!!
TCD will show you darkroom technic and you just hafta know someone that goes there and is in photosoc to use that, or there’s the darkroom’s in temple bar – but they’re pricy enough!
Learning the basics isn’t that hard – it’s more of a production line – develop, stop, fix, develop, stop, fix and then the more practice you get the more you can work with your prints!
i live up in Down (that sounds weird) now and use a local camera clubs darkroom but they’ve kinda turned it into a storage room cos everyone’s digital and it’s freezing in there! Seriously – corrupts the chemicals! Not good!
Oh yeah there’s Dublin camera club on Camden St as well – think it’s about 90euro for the year but they have darkroom and studio and exhibitions as well and talks from photo folk – someone in there probably wouldn’t mind showing you the ropes!
Otherwise I can find the email for tcd photosoc actually I think it’s just dupatcd.ie – and they teach technic all year – well at least used to – I’ve only been gone 2years so hopefully its not that different – wow I’m rambling on – sorry!
Good luck!
Grab someone in TCD photsoc and get them to develop it for you! – Is it B&W or color? If it’s B&W you could even post it up north to me and I’ll do it for you!
Love developing film – that’s always been the fun part for me – when you see exactly what you got on the neg!
But anyway – the film is absolutely fine (I’ve wound on film to reuseable cartridges the wrong way loads!) I’m not sure how they’re processed in commerical shops but I wouldn’t say it’d make that much of a difference though they probably don’t unload the film, just stick it in a machine that draws it out so they won’t even notice but yeah if you drop it into Gunn’s and tell them – it’ll be fine!
Good luck and don’t yell at your gf!!!!
You should ask in Gunn’s on Camden street – they are sooo nice in there and it’s like the only place I know of that still specialises in film photography, I’ve moved back to Northern Ireland now and I hafta buy everything on line and it costs a fortune cos no one is manufacturing anything “film” now!
i remember going to buy multigrade paper in jessops on grafton and it was priced at 65euro – went to gunns – 27euro!
And John Gunn and all the family are so nice – they love to give help and advice and might know the best places to go!
no worries guys – I have another FM and 3 lenses!!!
(I always carried a back up camera but now I’m strapped for cash and saying good bye to one of my babies until I can afford to buy anohter one – which I will don’t worry!!!)
Some encouraging statements there about film photography – I was starting to think I was all on my own in some photography time warp!!!
I joined a camera club and every now and again they have club competitions and they critique the photos entered but they usually say things like, I would have made that sky bluer, or you’ve got a green tinge from the ink jet printer!!!
N I’m just like – oops I thought they hand toned it that way!!!
I do like digital but it’s TOO perfect! In life there are very few Perfect images – often not enough clouds or a grey sky or a road sign in the way and I kinda like that – It’s more real and when you do get that perfect pic it feels all the more fantastic!!!
I’m holding out on selling until I get a fair price and an apreciatitive photographer so do post me later if you can aford it – sick of selling on ebay to shops that just want to undercut you then sell it as some antique or something!!!
I’m doing a lot of rants recently – sorry!!!
