    Cheers Dave,

I was hoping that the trees at the top would frame the shot somewhat…i guess i didn’t quite get the feel i was hoping for. Thanks for the comments.

i like the lines, but i think some cropping may add to the image (eg, remove the pavement at the bottom and crop just at the top of the bridge, removing excessive sky).

The sky is interesting, but i think it just takes away from the dramatic lines.

i love the flowers…only problem is that they are swamped by the out-of-focus background, which distracts the eye.

If the flowers are intended to be the “subject”, then a plain or neutral background helps to keep the eye on them. With the existing composition and view-point, i feel that an in-focus background would be best.

    i absolutely love the colours…amazing.

my only gripe is the DOF – it would be really nice to have the bottom flower in focus as well.

But i still love the colours….where did you take it?

in general, i’m not into misty water…so ignoring that:
    – i like the composition (trees forming a tunnel over the stream)
    – i think the bright left side and dark right side is interesting, but i think the left could be taken down a level of 2 (it distracts the eye from the rest of the image)
    – what time of year was this taken? Seems not all the leaves are out, so early spring? May be a lot more vivid and dramatic with heavier leaf cover on the trees in the background (or even better, a completely winter shot – bare tree and a b&w shot)

there’s a few things about this:
    – the sky isn’t dramatic enough and doesn’t add anything to the image. It’s also taking up too much space in the frame (you could probably get away with that much if there were thunder clounds rolling in or even a sunset)
    – the people are too indistinct, and don’t really come across as the subject of the image.

Overall, i don’t think there’s enough subject in thisto carry it as an image. Sorry for being so down on it ;-)

Fair point…i didn’t pay too much attention to the DOF when taking the shot…next time. Thanks for that

I quite like the sun being included and in fact would prefer more of it. I think it provides a nice contrast and these types of days and weather mix can give some dynamic photographic possibilities. I also like the PoV and composition.

Thanks for the feedback….i like the sun in the image too….i think it lends a bit more emphasis to the ultimate destination for the windy road.

    Thanks for that, Fergus.

I had a sneaking suspicion that the sun was a bit over-powering….although i liked the idea of the road leading into the sun.

I was also thinking of converting to B&W, given that there is already very little natural colour in it to start with.

I guess it’s back to the digital darkroom

from the original image, i think you did a good job of bringing up the shadows. both the original and the post-processed are impressive – great athmosphere.

interesting composition, but as it stands, the image has some weaknesses (in my opinion):
    – the sky is a bit blown out (maybe tone it down and get some cloud detail)
    – ditto for the sky’s reflection in the river
    – i think in general, it’s a bit over-exposed.
    – the car on the bridge is a bit of a distraction

some post-processing would fix the blow-outs (or some exposure compensation when taking the image). Upping the saturation would also bring up the bridge after toning it down a bit.

i agree with the previous posting….the first is my favourite. I love the use of the roadway to lead into the image.

the sloping near horizon is a bit off-putting in the second (I know there’s a sloping horizon in the first, but for some reason, it’s not as distracting :? )

the first is very interesting…i like the way the building lights and pedestrian lights stand out. as a subject, not sure it works, but the effect is interesting, almost of a sci-fi genre.

the 2nd doesn’t do anything for me…nothing to really keep the eye or a viewer’s interest.

as you say, the 3rd is a bit over-processed, but i still like it (doesn’t come across as an over-the-top hdr, like so many i see on the net).
