I love them, esp the second one. I’m working on a project myself with similar theme, our relationship to the landscape, i want to get a dreamy effect in my photos (am shooting digital) I’d love to create an effect like shot two, any suggestions? What did you hand in for your project in the end would like to see those!

BTW these look more like fine art than documentary.

It was great, when I was still taking normal photographs… ah, memories.

Care to share which was your favorite Photogram of the year Zoltan? I’d be interested to know.

I had a good time this year using lots of different cameras and films, and styles of processing, this is one of my faves from the year,
the dog, on the kitchen table, with apples. Shot on a little Lubitel 2 camera. (thanks to Fintan for passing on the camera)

    Sinead

love this one, tell me about the process please, I know nothing about the lubitel, is like a holga? is it film? did you process yourself, any digiital enhancing?

I used them about 1 year ago and found that the images were very harsh…but that wasn’t their problem. I hadn’t a calibrated monitor and was using a 14″ laptop to process images. I’ve used them recently again and found the prints to be excellent. I selected matt paper and also ticked the box to stop any corrective measures taking place. Where I printed images on my own printer and compared with foto.com I found the detail was still in the foto.com images without the harsh colour of my own prints. The tones were subdued but it actually made the images more paletable. This may be dependant on the subject of course but I was happy with them. I got 11 8″x12″ for just over €10 and delivered in a week. The postage funnily enough goes up quite sharply with the increased images even though they come in the same type box.

sounds good I’ve used photobox and was quite happy but the colours were a little too subdued. I work from a laptop too so am wondering can I calibrate its screen? this is an area I’m clueless in. I thought you could only calibrate your screen for your own printer and not if printing was done elsewhere?? Jow do i calibrate?

I use the Epson Stylus Photo R300 but this has been replaced by the Epson Stylus Photo R280. I find it useful for quick printing but if you consider to use genuine inks and genuine Epson paper you’re possibly looking at €2+ per print. If you go to http://www.foto.com you set almost A4 for €0.50 each. So if you want something for when you want up to A4 in a hurry it’s fine but if you want to do all your printing I can only bow to better knowledge from others.

    Alan.

whats the quality of print from http://www.fofo.com?

Really does depend on what you want to print …and how much you want to spend …

If you’re interested in high quality prnts up to A3, you wont go wrong with an
    Epson R2880

although they are quite expensive per print …

Thanks I heard thats a good one, so when you say expensive per print how much say for an 8×10?

Great series – The compositions in the all are really appealling , not to mention the engagement that your have fromt he people in them .. love them !

I do agree that the flash is a bit heavy – what are you using ?? if you can get the flash off camera and bounce it so its not direct and washing out your subjects faces it will really help .. If you don’t have an off camera flash – you nede to think about getting one – your stuff is great and would definately be even better !

I’m using a speedlight 580, one stop under for fill on the outside shots and bounced off the ceiling for indoor shots. I haven’t got a diffuser, next purchase! (when do we ever have enough stuff???) Thank you for your very complimentary comments and suggestions. I had a look at your site Lorraine and lovely work, esp your studio portraits and babies beautiful light and compostition.

Very good set and a very good cause worth reporting on. The little chap in the second last is my fave, he looks like such a happy little character.
    Good work
thanks! Interestingly this happy looking little fella is now living in a house, his family got granted leave to remain and they could move out.. you can tell he’s a lot happier than the other kids.
