i mainly used the lens for sport and have found admittedly the best results are when mono/tirpod mounted i have to admit its hard to use handheld. that said the lens is tack sharp the only other lens i own which can match is for resolution is the 50mm f1.4. if you check the reviews they say this lens has sharper optics than the IS version and field and lab tests have proved this. unlike alot of other primes its also very very good wide open. i was usuing it with the 1.4x extender(now sold) which gave me a very good quality 420mm f5.6 lens with full autofocus retained.
this lense is still for sale im throwing in a kood light sunset grad filter which fits the cokin-p system and filter has never been used.
lense itself and case/manual/hood etc is all spotless and comes with original box. just over 1 yr old. im selling as i now have a full frame slr.
pardon my lack of knowledge, and mods, please feel free to move my post in this thread, but why would you have to sell this if you are moving to a full frame camera? doesnt that just mean that you wont have to work out the crop factor due to the 1.6X crop of the smaller chips? this will still work on the full frame, right?? im not trying cause hassle in this thread, i just want to know for the sake of having a little more knowledge
no its cool, its just that this lense was designed for sensors with a crop factor and although it works ok on full frame from 12mm upwards, theres some vignetting a its widest. il be looking for something like 16-35mm now , 10mm would perhaps be a bit too wide on full frame for landscapes.
i use a 105mm f2.8 macro from sigma, is a less expensive option than the canon and although ive never used the canon, im very happy with the results v sharp 1:1 magnification. I bought mine new but if you can find a second hand one could work out a bargain
