Using the D80 for most of my shots with a 70-200 2.8. when I’m at the races. You can get close to the action at a Karting event, trying to capture it is the age old problem ;-)
Great set.
#3 would be the favourite followed by #1
#3 Gives the impression that the racing was racing was close. Well captured.
#1 The lads really hanging off the bike with knee and almost his elbow on the track.
Thanks for the comment Shutterlight.
I was thinking the same but I’ve been tending to crop with 3:2 aspect ratio.
I presume with sports photography you can crop to where the action/point of focus is?
The image below might work better with a tighter crop or does the bike need ‘space’ to lead into?
Great set Dessie.
I like the bike shots in particular
#1 great capture, hanging off, drifting and opposite lock.
#6 & 7 another great capture, looks like it would be a painful landing. I agree with Soda to reverse the order.
I know exactly what you mean, they don’t call it “The worlds fastest road race” for nothing. I took loads of images but binned lots of them.
You look like you had a good location and were reasonably close, so that’s a good start. It was quite overcast and gloomy at times on Saturday which makes it difficult when you need a quick shutter speed.
Nice shot.
Fran
It’s a brilliant location for taking pictures, I was lucky enough to be their for the fringe festival. Plenty of characters and street performers knocking about then
Thanks Jenny.
You wouldn’t have had much trouble finding one that weekend, they were all over the place. I’d never seen them before so it was a first for me.
Cheers Enda, our local conditions mustn’t these moths (to cold and wet ;-)
Thanks Carl, yes, they are hand held with 70-200 almost at the limit. Far from ideal.
It’s a subject I’ve never caught before but I can see the attraction.
We had tripods with us but we didn’t think we’d have the time to set them up before it flew away, as it turned out we would have but that’s the way things go.
As with most forms of motor-sport it’s difficult to catch those incidents/accidents but with the juniors you probably have more opportunities to catch that *action* shot.
The Whiteriver Park circuit has plenty of gradient changes and locations close to the track for taking different types of shots. The karts are quick but I’d imagine F1 is more difficult to photograph particularly if you’re close. With karts you always see some action unlike F1 and it’s local and accessible.
Thanks Sodafarl, I used the D80 with a new 70-200 f2.8. I’m pleased with the results. 2nd shot was purely about the look the driver was giving me, it’s a pity it’s not sharp enough.
Nice shots Sean, I was thinking the top one was from Thursday cos there was no feckin sun yesterday, only the liquid kind.
I think #3 is Simona Zaccardi #59 she was racing in supersports, it was her first time at the NW because she was wearing a bib on Thursday.
Love the expression on the BBC commentators face.
