Max sync speed on a 5D is 1/200th s – so you should be OK if everything is working properly.
You need to test the individual parts to see if.where the problem is.
I would start by putting the flash on the camera. Point at a bare wall, and take a series of exposures at different shutter speeds.
If you see the problem at slower speeds than 1/200 – then you may have a problem with your shutter.
I suppose it could be a dodgy flash – but that seems unlikely for your symptoms.
If all is OK on the first test, repeat, but remove the flash from the camera and use the triggers to trigger it – once again at different shutter speeds.
The results should give you an idea if there’s a problem with any of the hardware.
Eneloops are good – but their main (only ?) advantage is that (unlike standard NiMH batteries) they lose their charge very slowly. So you can charge them up, and still use them weeks later. Disadvantages are lower capacity and higher cost.
If I was getting just one set of batteries, I would probably get Eneloops. However, for multiple sets, I would get mainly standard NiMHs for day-to-day use and 1 Eneloop set as a backup (this is basically what I have – except I have multiples of everything).
I’ve found the 7DayShop own-brand rechargeables to be fairly reliable and good value. I only use a good quality charger for them (Maha).
I have accounts on both – but prefer Smugmug (they have great customer support).
Smugmug used to have US$/US printing only, but they have now done a deal with Loxley Colour in the UK – so professional quality prints can be sold via the site. Smugmug also allow much more site customisation (but this can lead to increased complexity in tweaking).
Both of them have trial periods – so you can try for yourself.
yea id say the manufacturer or designer is liable there !
i wonder did she have a copyright statement on her blog?
The linked article says she did.
However, it’s pretty irrelevant anyway – unless she had a notice explicitly granting permission for commercial use (unlikely !) on her blog, then it’s clearly copyright violation.
I have been using the own-brand ones from 7dayshop for years, with no problems. However, I do use a a really good Maha charger – which is also important. The main advantage (really, the only advantage) of eneloop-type batteries is that they hold their charge for longer. The disadvantages are lower capacity and higher cost. I might buy a set at some stage as a backup, but otherwise see no need for them.
If you don’t want to buy the official Canon CP-E4 battery pack, then I would suggest you try one of the Yongnuo-brand ones via ebay. I have looked at a few different clones, and these seem to be the best constructed, and are fairly reasonably priced.
