Perhaps I’m missing something here but I ran the pics through lightroom, boosted the vibrance tonned down the green a tiny bit to bring it back (and selective yellows in the foreground grass) and boosted clarity (as sharpening), hey presto vivid relistic colours.
I’ll admit to being inexperienced but to me the idea of using flash for this type of thing is going down the proverbial garden path. The example pic given is completely different i.e. a single stationary object where as here we are talking about more dynamic on the move shooting.
Hey folks sorry for the delay in responding to your comments I was traveling with work (still am).

I’ve never really tried to get to grips with sharpening (ridiculous I know) and just started shooting in raw which probably makes it worse so I’ll revisit and try and make it a bit sharper.

If I remember rightly I probably have room for a more spacious crop so will do as you sugggested, I’ll also try and lighten the shadows as suggested as mentioned it was shot in raw so should be able to do something.
Thanks again for the comments when I edidt I’ll repost.
And bingo on the Clarity, as I boosted that all the way up, lol. I’ll reduce it and see what effect it has and as suggested if I prefer it or not before making a decision.
I really like this 2nd then 1st, one thing that does jar a little is the item sticking up from his leg. As I don’t know what it is as it is too small to be identified (guessing walkie talkie?) I think I’d photoshop it out.
Mick, will you do me a favour and post a crap shot so we know you are human?????
Love them both.
On the set I wonder if it might be better to have the one where his face is visible first (i.e. on the left) so we “know” the subject when we look at the others? But then again you could look at it as if the mystery is revealed, lol.
I like the B&W one too, but I think it is a great idea the way you are posting both versions (was checking out yur other ones too) as it is a good teaching tool seeing how they differ in colour v’s B&W so appreciate you doing it.
