I actually like the way he’s trying to shoot out of the black..
but unfortunately, as well as having no access to the internet, I had no camera either for about 3 months! this taken with a compact camera that my dad had to spare (actually a camera that his school doesn’t know they’re lending to me :D ) he brought it over just last week! even though it’s not a good camera I’m soooo happy with it!!
I’ll try to get some more light in the lower parts though, see how that looks;..
edit: sorry meant to add that there’s not RAW function on this camera
Hi inte – having a browse through the forum and your pictures ‘caught my eye’. They are certainly unusual and I find this look very appealing!
Some interesting points there. To a large extent I agree. I also like the world of trees, cars, sunlight etc (you put that very well), although sometimes I do take pictures in a studio too. Perhaps a studio setup is an unnatural environment so it’s difficult to get people to look natural there?
It’s always difficult to know about making a person “look pretty”. If its a female model and the pictures are for her then I guess I’ll try to find a flattering angle. Isn’t that part of the portrait photographer’s skill – to make the most of the good features and to minimise the others? Of course, I realise this may not always be the case, especially with emotive portraits.
first: thanks!
when I said I don’t aim for the model to look ‘pretty’ I mean that ‘pretty’ doesn’t have to be what Glossy mags tell you is pretty. there’s a more emotional side to pretty. but I do agree with you if you’re shooting for the model, you kinda have to emphasize his/her good features, and minimise the others. that’s a different aim for a photo than purely trying to capture the right mood or something like that, something more abstract perhaps.
thanks people!
I like the first one best indeed, also because of the colour. I’m usually not so much into gig photography because of the lack of interesting colours in the stageshow. the blue, red, yellow [if you’re lucky] and white lights kinda get me bored. so I’m glad I got some green in my pictures :)
it was a good concert btw! I knew only 1 of their songs, but they didn’t play it.
yes I definitely like the comments that you get on this forum! I’ve been searching for things like this on deviantArt and Flickr, but they’re nowhere near this place :)
hmm packing isn’t going as happily as I wanted.. I have to somehow get rid of 4 kiloos.. I could of course throw my mini-but-not-tiny cd player out, but I could also go for the clothes..
I did allow her some space in front of her face when I took the picture, so I tried a different cut out here:
(I added a bit of the original photo to the one I posted above instead of doing the whole picture over, I’m sort of in a rush, I really do have to get started packing my bags, I’m leaving for Dublin tomorrow!)
I actually added a block of black to the left, as I liked this composition better. I’ll see what I can change to the picture so that it’s maybe a bit more distant :) gonna eat lunch first ;)
great debate it is, but I’m sure there will never be a final outcome.
this has got to do with likes and dislikes and we all know you even disagree with your best friend.
I have to say I don’t like Glossy mags and their photography, I’m usually hesitant towards studio photography as I like models that interfere with and are influenced by and maybe even in awe of their surroundings.
I like spontenaity [spelling!!!] and actually don’t aim for the person being photographed to look pretty. I aim for their expression, thoughts, emotions to come across. Of course there are photographers that can do this in the studio, but [based on this one experience] I find it 10 times harder than with the world of trees, cars, ants, movement and sunlight around me and whatever I photograph.
I actually don’t photograph human beings very often!
I guess I should soon post some more photo’s I’ve made, cause this is really not representative of my makings. actually I can’t think of anything that is, but maybe I’m too close to see. :)
very strange/cool that you all say something about the style of the picture, I’ve never seen myself as having a style. well of course you’ve only just seen 2 pictures, but even within one shoot I can never make out what is ‘me’ about it.
about the first one, I’m always annoyed by the ‘too-white’ spot in the upper left corner [what’s the english term for this?] but I don’t want to mess with the composition.. maybe I can make it a bit darker
I wish I could edit this picture to see what more light [like you suggested] would look like, but I lost the original due to a HD crash [several crashes, actually]
camera equipment can be quite expensive over here …!
in Holland that Nikon D50 would be about 600 or 650 euroos, do you happen to know what it’s like in Ireland?
I can pretty much start form 0 euroos actually, cause saving to survive in Dublin has more priority at the moment ;)
so see me in 2030 and I might have a camera :P
