The things you do when you’re bored and off work…….!?

    Number of members : 492
Number of members with less than 30 posts (many of whom have made none or single figures??) – 388. 388 amounts to almost 79% of the ‘membership.’

Or in other words, the majority of the posts are made by 21% of the membership. 21% equates to the remaining 104 members.

Only 61 members have made at least 100 posts. 61 members amounts to 12.4% of the membership. Interesting when you consider this (probably?) corresponds with the total number of votes in the monthly competitions. Maybe 60 should be seen as the number of ‘active’ members?

    Conclusions……..??
    1. Some people talk too much
    2. Some people dont talk enough :x
    3. Some people dont talk at all? Why? Do they exist? Why have they joined? :?:

not a useful comment I know

but an image I like and I could see it on a magazine cover or maybe a budget supplement after the cigerates are hammered in a forthnight

…… So now that you’re back, hopefully you;ll post one or two more images, comment on a few too.. don’t just disappear again.

I’ll try to post some more shots, my comments would be mainly on the lines of liking a shot as I’m not strong onthe technicial aspects yet

and as for the being around more often, I’m starting to settle into the new job now so hopefully I will get more time to post

Ben they were taken in randalstown in antrim (Carrie-Jay and Roy McKeown’s studio http://www.imagerystudio.co.uk/). I know what you mean Ciaran – at the time its always concentrating on framing, lighting and yadda ya – its only later you go – whoa there! PS that pose in the 2nd one was one carrie came up with. Thanks for checking.

Roy Smyth is going to be very upset with you ;)

or maybe flattered considering the quality of Roy McKeown’s work

    Hi Jack
For me the colour image appeals because of those amazing eyes, this girl is such an inspiration from reading her story, you have metered well here to bring out the detail in her eyes,it looks like a one light with reflector shoot ? If so even better, would love to hear youre technique on this one as Gerard found it difficult to get the eye’s to liven up.

to be honest trial & error, once I had beth the way I wanted her I snaped looked at the screen and either adjusted my flash, appeture or shutter speed to get the tweak I wanted, I can hear the screams of horror going up from a few people who worked with me in the past, but it seems to work (for me anyway) that was the 11th shot of that attempt

Personally i wouldnt close it down to 2.8 or wider as the mask seems to pretrude out from the face a bit which kinda throws the DOF(personal opinion, others will def disagree i’m sure). Regardless lovely portrait Jack, would love to see more from the same shoot if any exists?

the mask was slightly large for Beth so I had her hold it a bit infront of her face so that it looked a better fit, it was too good of a prop not to use

…….. A good book worth reading is “The Law, In Plain English, For Photographers”.

Just curious is it an Irish book or an English one, While many of the laws between the two countries are similiar some are very different

Its hmm nice without being a “nice” image if that makes sense

    I’d be interested in seeing it as a B & W
