    Hi Peter
Agreeing with Cora, very helpful. I appreciate the detail of your comments. Thanks a lot. Some things to think about and work on.

Thanks for the encouragement. It gives me more incentive to keep snapping :-)

As regards the size. If I make them small enough then do they automatically fit in the post without the thumbnail (click here for full size option) ? I keep them to 2 or 3, thats cool.

    cheers

I checked and the camera does have something along those lines. When the rain stops here I will give it a go. Time to rig up the old bird table again in any case.

    happy new year

Clarity, sharpness is amazing. Third looks strangely like its stuffed, its so sharp or maybe its the background. The male sparrow in second is perfect I think.

Very nice. The face is so detailed that the eyes seem full of expression. No expert but I don’t think b/w. The colour subleties of his fur coat might be lost.

    Hi Alan,
I see what you mean as I look at it now. I naturally follow the road too. Perhaps if the tree was at the other side of the road and therefore more central, so a focal point. It’s also on an incline in the road hence the road disappears. A shot at the top of the road “downhill” with more road in view would be interesting, if the road disappeared into some trees further down, as it probably does the eye would follow it. It was a hastily taken photo but it stood out amoung anything else I took at the time. It strikes me as interesting to look at again now.
Thanks for the thoughts. Much appreciated.

Then I look at previous posts and realise how much I have to learn! It’s inspiring though. I’m getting hooked! When my new camera arrives as ordered I hope to post a few more informed “experiments”.

    Cheers guys

I’ll certainly consider the 350 next time my wallet is in a good mood. I still haven’t got the one I ordered actually, the powershot. Should arrive any day. I’m impatient to start experimenting.

That sounds about right, makes sense. Thanks.

And you have the 400D. That’s the one I want ! I checked it out and it seems a good next step when I’m done with the compact camera. Powershot A 570 has a lot of features more than the usual for the price but just good for getting into this not for any bigger projects. It has full manual control so I can get the basics down. Can’t afford 400D yet. I reckon it’s upwards of 800 euro.
