You’re right about the darkness of the image. I didn’t have the time to edit it on PS :)
I like my photography to provoke a response. If you felt sad, then I’m happy (!) because I meant the shot to convey a person who is indeed upset/depressed, etc. I wanted to create a dark, foreboding effect that would immediately strike the viewer. If I’ve achieved this, the photo in my opinion has been successful.
OK, under the overwhelming odds against me, I concede defeat :D The expression is probably not very ‘happy’ (apologies Isabella  ). The textures are a old pane of glass, stained by the nearby greenery. he was just looking out from a shed and someone threw something at the window, hence his expression. I was wondering if the shot was technically strong, and that’s really why I posted it.
Personally, I think this is a tribute to the innocence and excitement of little boys. I assure you he was very ‘happy’ when I took the shot. Entitled to your own opinion though.
Thanks for the reply – I thought the posts sort of drew the eye into the image, and I loved the gate. The fog gave the whole image an out-of-this-world feel.
Thanks John, I’ve learned since then to be more ‘up front’ with subjects, its a real pain trying to get shots ‘without them seeing’. Thanks for the feedback.
