Maggie, whilst I cannot personally vouch for Simply Electronics, I too believe that they are based in Hong Kong and not in the UK as their website suggests. A friend ordered a Tokina form there last year and it was shipped from Hong Kong.
Please bear in mind that you may very well be asked to pay import duty and VAT when it arrives in IE customs, plus you may not have a European warranty should anything go wrong.
Hong Kong prices are not that much better than over here at present (I know – I was there in March trying to buy a lens on the cheap!) and with the VAT and duty, it could end up being more.
I would suggest using http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; as it seem to be the main search bot for camera prices.
Edit – right now, the lowest price on the site going by the site above is £1669 for the 5Dmk11 from Bristol Cameras (Simplys price is £1630) and £1479 for the 70-200 f2.8IS from Martins Camera Shop (Simply’s price is £1489 and no stock)
I have a Sigma 10-20 which I’m pretty happy with and is quite well regarded. If you’re anywhere near Enniskillen you’re welcome to come and have a try of it before you buy one
Well done Karlo – great work, you are quite right to be pleased with yourself. I have yet to see anything but spectacular photos from you :D
We are leaving for Cebu on Friday and were originally planning to do Bohol and I was looking forward to a 5.30am start up at the Hills. Sadly, the concensus now is that we are heading to Bantayan for a few days and then over to Leyte (home!).
I know Bantayan is small, but do you know of anything worth shooting on the island? We are also heading up to Biliran for a day or so, I was thinking of the thermal springs. Other than that and some street stuff, is there anything on Leyte worth a visit?
Sorry if your not familiar with these areas but any pointers would be greatly appreciated Karlo, thanks and ingats!
Lovely shots Robert – both of them. The harbour is particulaly lovely, proper postcard stuff and great composition (would have loved to see the whole of the sinking fishing boat in the shot though!) but for some reason I find the distant ship distracting – have you tried cloning it out? I might also desaturate the blue just a notch.
