lol, you got me. sounds like a nice name, I immediately thought the mathematical
constant pi..
And the old string and washer trick, ho ho. certainly something I have looked into in my
research, did a few vibration tests on it the other week, worked out well enough. Its a nice
totally out of the box idea but it would need massive ergonomic redesign if i went down
that route, and i’m not down any route yet tbh :)
glad to see interested responses, ill have to come back to show you
some of the prototypes when theyre made (it’ll be a few months at least!),
I know my opening paragraph sounded ambitious so I’ll have to do well
now, theres every chance if i get a good enough model ill be plodding
around from shop to shop in Dublin getting opinions from retail managers.
If I’m reeally lucky I might be able to set up a little showing in a shop where
I can get customer feedback right there and then, if that happens I’ll have
to post details here!
jb7 – smartass answers allowed! and i can’t find anything on pi straps when i
google it, I’m very interested though, have you a link by any chance?
Seoirse – unfortunately there’s something of an unsatisfactory answer to
your question – fact is the thesis requires a huge chunk of market research
and analysis, the usefulness of the product is just as important as the $$$
it’ll be making. That sounds terrible, i know, it is an important factor though.
It might be fair to say that the amount of people using medium
and large format cameras is quite small and although there probably is good
money (and satisfaction!) to be made designing for them I probably couldn’t
get as good research from what could possibly be described as a niche market
(hope that doesnt cut deep!). I simply have far too little personal experience
and know just a handful of people who have used such wonderful contraptions..
On the other hand though I shouldnt have ruled out film SLRs and possibly
rangefinders too, my angle for the design is the fact that DSLRs have suddenly
become hugely and unexpectedly popular in the last couple of years and I think
theres a gap for a portable product that helps get a stable picture without
compromising on speed and perspective (my biggest irk with the popular
gorillapods). basically any camera with the basic shape of an SLR that is heavy
enough to need a strap is fair game!
I actually like the black and white, perhaps the levels could be adjusted to make the images pop a bit more but i think it was a good choice. To be honest though im not sure i would have had any idea what was happening had i not read your description. nobody is paying any attention towards the river in the first image and in the second they all seem to be sharing a joke, i assume the patient wasn’t hurt badly?
Jesus, what happened here? I agree on the second one, scrolling down the page reveals the
gardas back, then the camera and then the bullet he’s pointing it at. interesting stuff.
Cheers Ken! It’s really great to hear that from somebody who knows the area, I really do appreciate the opinion.
You have to wonder whether your own view of a place is affecting your pictures, which can definitely be a bad thing. Luckily i had a good few
days wandering about, chatted to a few locals and got a good feel for the place, it’s really getting to be one of the more multi cultural
areas of the city and its chock full of kids during the days, great community feel.bit of a shame about the roaming groups of teenagers later though, i was only
given some bad attention once and i suppose it was to be expected going around a residential area with a camera but i was quick to make for thomas
street after! Not discouraged, i was back the next day and i think i had enough good encounters to forget about the few bad apples
They are indeed dusk shots to be more accurate! The reason for which is i didn’t want to use a tripod but really wanted some shots of the flats lit up as they are. I have a good setup for taking night shots at the moment with my 20mm f2.8 and D90, which handles low light like a dream but i didnt really want to be taking pictures of peoples houses so obviously.
Also i’d love to go up the stairwells and take pictures but i don’t know anybody who lives around the area, if anyone has any contacts that would be great :D im hugely interested in the area
wow, the scale is magnificant. good that you got the figures in the picture, makes it all the more fantastic. I love the light on structures in the left of the photo but it is a shame about the sky. great work man, im putting Ellora on my list of must see places for travelling next summer!
Thanks Damien, that’s actually alot of help, i had noticed the autofocus might be a problem. I’ve heard good things about Nikon’s 20mm f2.8, maybe not as big an aperture as i would have liked but it’s certainly better than my own lens and it’s got the wide angle that i love. It’s also tiny and would transform my camera and how i could use it.
Only thing is i would have to get used to manual focus, not entirely impossible, i’m sure…
These are really good, you should be proud. You certainly have a flair for portraits and composing, i’m impressed. I love when you see pictures of a place and immediately crave being there
You really took this at the right time, i love the golden light trimming the top of the buildings and the bridge. The colours are really superb and i like your composition with the sculpture in the foreground, really draws you in. Well done
I’m not so sure about the light issue, to be honest, i’m a big appreciater of photos that make use of light and i thought when i saw the second one that the ray of light at the top gave the picture a certain dimension, i like it alot actually. I think it might look a bit flat if the light were homogenous through the pic, just my own opinion though!
Heya, thanks for your time Peter and your kind words. A friend of mine runs a gallery in Greystones in Wicklow and is holding an open exhibition around december. She suggested compiling them in a blurb book and selling from there, I’m not sure a book of photos of Iran would sell too well at christmas though and i’m far too skint to buy more than a few right now in case they don’t! Apart from that i really wouldn’t know how to approach marketing my photos with no more than a flickr account, they may rest as good assets in my portfolio for now
