Actually Pete no that’s not the problem, I just tried the lens on another Canon body and it’s doing the same thing. Cleaned the contacts on the lens but no joy – was worth a try!
Thanks a million Pete I will try that – although I’ll prob send the camera off to a professional outfit for cleaning as I don’t think I’d have the skill to do that myself. Will let you know, much appreciated.
Thanks a lot for the advice Miki. I tried the camera with different lens’ the first day it failed but to no avail, I changed lens, battery and memory card – the error continued. Yes I returned the camera without the lens but they tried it with various lens’ fitted and couldn’t re-create the problem. Supplier I got it is in the UK so no possibility to bring it into their shop as I live in N.I. Last weekend when it failed there was no error message – you could just hear a whirring type sound – like it was continually trying to focus on something as if it was in live mode, so there was nothing to photograph as proof of another failure, the back screen just stayed black. The problem will be proving there is another issue… I will insist on a replacement but judging their reply they’re again going to try to recreate the problem – and most likely again find nothing wrong. :-(
Thanks all for taking the time to reply, I’m using a 7D. Ok so I think I have to accept then that my 100-400mm is too slow for an extender, ahh bit of a shame but there you go, I doubt I’ll be buying a faster one than that for a while :-( – Thanks Miki, Aoluain & Twinflash for giving me your opinion though – much appreciated. Kerry
Thanks alot Green Meanie – I have now bought the receivers/transmitters you suggested and they are working perfectly – thanks alot for that link – really appreciate the help as I am a bit clueless in that Dept! :-) Will be a while till I take photos as perfectly lit as your above (great shot!) but no excuses now lol ! Thanks a mill! Kerry
Thanks everyone for the very helpful advice – much appreciated.
Philip/Brendan, The flash I have is a a Yongnuo YN460-II speedlite (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0031YBKA6/ref=oss_product” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;). Philip I have just followed your instructions and it worked perfectly – great! Tried it in Slave 1 and 2 and again, it worked perfectly, also by using my Canon remote release. I would have had no idea about 250 sec being the max for my camera so thanks alot for that advice too.
Haven’t worked out how to use only the speedlite (ie. turning off the on-board flash) as it would appear to need the onboard flash to trigger the speedlite when off camera but perhaps there is a way – I’ll keep playing, hopefully it’s here somewhere in the manual.
Green Meanie, the link you sent was very helpful and I’ve just saved it for future ref – thanks alot too for that. :-)
Really appreciate you all taking the time to reply – thanks so very much!
Hi guys thanks for the info, the rings mostly appear at the post-processing stage so maybe I’m being a bit heavy with CS5. On a few occasions I can see them on the original photo also but only very slightly but CS5 definitely seems to accentuate them – or should I say “my use” of CS5 accentuates them! I have seen “De-banding” as an options in one of the Topaz plug-ins so maybe I’ll try running that as I wasn’t sure what it was. Thanks alot for the advice guys – much appreciated! :)
Ah thanks a million Big Al Guitar Player!! Your reply came just in time I was starting to think I was gonna have to wing it lol !! Thanks a million for your advice, have just printed it off and will have it with me tomorrow. Fingers crossed, if I pull this off I’ll be having a large glass of vino tomorrow night – well for starters anyway ha!! Thanks alot !! :-)
Hi Chris – I replied on Sunday but for some reason it doesn’t appear to be in my Sent items so I just replied again there now. If you didn’t get a PM from me tonight let me know. Thanks alot! Kerry
