Thanks feck and everyone for the advice, I ended up going for the Yongnuo YN-460II which arrived yesterday. 50 Euro inc shipping and so far so good, think it will do everything I need a flas for.
Thanks again for the comments, all taken on board for next time, and yes Joe, it is great fun doing this kind of photography, but a lot of late nights, ha ha
Thank for your comments and I will see if I can do what you suggested about cropping the photo, but generally I do not use Photoshop or edit any of my photos, it’s what you see is what the camera has taken, but I guess I can see what I can come up with.
The overall shoot took about an hour and a half and in that time I took 5 photos. The exposure time on each of the photos is about 3min’s so the rest of the time was setting up and trying different things. The dome effect of sparks is achieved by taking some steel wool, tying some wire around it, setting it alight and then just swirl it around your head. As you may see from some of the other photos I have added the effect varies when doing this, sometimes it lights up more than others, but I guess with most things it’s trial and error.
Hope you like the other photos and look forward to your comments,
I have uploaded the other photos of this set, please let me know what you think, but for me looking at them again, I still fell the “Space Cowboy” is the best of the bunch. The steel wool does not give the same effect in every photo which is a shame, because some of the other shots would be better if it was brighter, as you would say IMO, and it’s great to have your and others opinion.
Thank you so much for your comments, it means a lot to a beginner like myself to receive such good feedback on my photo’s.
I love hearing other peoples opinion on my work, so I can learn and try any suggestions I receive, thanks again.
Joe, I think I know what you mean about 2 ideas going on, in fact I took this photo 5 times each time adding a little something extra and found the photo without the red and green effect in the foreground is missing something, I also tried it with blue light in the foreground but found this effect was too strong and overpowered the rest of the photo. I am just wondering if I should upload the rest of the set and you might see what I was trying to do, and then I could ask which one people like the most.
Don’t be silly that was helpful. Ya I was looking at the Yongnuo on eBay and yep the price is right on them, but I also spotted a lot of people having trouble with it when I googled it. Think I need to do some more research on Yongnuo.
Ya such a pity about the lights been turned off, Photo was taking at 2.05am and I have heard that they turn the lights off at 2am, so dam close, I will have to try and get back to Dublin soon and get down there B4 2am, lol
