Anyone who can shoot 78 weddings in 5 months is clearly low-end and doing mostly shoot & burn. Good luck to her! I know I’d rather do 30 higher end jobs than bust a gut for very little return in 78.
I agree Mark, I know my head would be fried just thinking about it, but there most be a very strong market for it.
Sorry have not been on for a while banned from the computer and tv (eye infection). some good point above and thanks for the advice and the pm’s, Just spoke to a Irish lady today who is living in Lanzarote she has photographed 78 Irish weddings in the last 5 months, maybe everone is getting married abroad, now that a though everyone move abroad.
I bought Epson paper from 7 dayshop but found them nearly twice the price as http://www.dpsb.co.uk so no more paper from 7dayshop.
dpsb, Epson A3+ Premium Semigloss Photo Paper (20 Sheets) £17.86 sterling inc vat.
7 dayshop, Epson A3+ Premium Semigloss Photo Paper (20 Sheets) £38.42 sterling inc vat.
I found chris from dpsp 1st class to deal with, and the postage is not to bad either.
If you are looking for inspiration type in google: Joe Buissink, Jerry Ghionis, Becker, Cliff Mautner, Jules Bianchi those are one of my favorites ;)
Be inspired by them and try to find your style.
But remember. Firstly it needs to be a simple photo with great quality. After that you can experiment with post processing.
A photographer closer to home for some inspiration http://www.paulcallaghan.com For me the best wedding photographer in Ireland
I have 2 very different business not related to photography one retail and one food, In our 25 years in business I have never seen price increases like I have got in the last 4 days everything in both business has gone up between 20 and 25%, Even our UK suppliers have added 20% but never reduced the prices when the Sterling was weak against the Euro. Some hard times ahead I think.
I’ve not read through all the replies above, but the guys who have replied are probably the best qualified as they’re pro’s or semi-pro’s and know that side of the game, but you want to change career and want to know about qualifications. I think 75% of the ppl on this site have thought that or are currently working at doing it now.
IMHO the things you need to make it as a photographer are: Drive, Balls, commitment and a good portfolio.
You’ll never stop learning, be it photography or business skills and ideas.
Re: Qualifications: Look at a City & Guilds course (I’m doing one and it’s very very very good), get a LRPS with the RPS or LSWPP with the SWPP esp. if considering portrait/wedding work.
And might I add, by posting shots on here you will get first class and honest feedback, take it on board, improve those errors/short comings and you’ll improve no end.
Brian the City & Guilds course you are doing have you a link to it for some info, Is it at a college, or by mail.
I have had nothing but trouble with Sigma 24-70 2.8, wont focus correctly, stiff zoom ring, Sigma charged me €120.00 to repair it (only 13 months old and used once), and its still crap.
Thanks for the welcome jb7 and you to Mark, for me I think it’s time to slow down and think what i want from a image then shoot it. a least the cards have got me thinking more about my photography and the way I go about it. Now it’s time to get of my ass and go and try to recreate some of the Donegal ones, I dont think the ones on Aranmore will ever be done
Very inspired by the photos, thank god there was no photoshop in them days, makes you wonder why we need all this fancy gear, how many photos did they take to get a good one ?????, one I bet, Feck it I think I will put the all 1D’s 5d’s away for a while and break out my T90 ( I know that is advanced by what they had) and get back to basics, It what photography is all about the photographer, not shoot it and fix it in photoshop
