Hi Ras- thanks for the critique – TBH I dont really have a clue which F stops to use(!) and initially I did the pose with the model I really liked it and thought, oh thats not bad, but after your advice I looked again at the first image and OMG you are right the head disapears into the void-Ok if you are looking for a french revolution shot but yes, must look at that again if I mean to use it.
My work is more digital than photography but need a steep learning curve for photographic studio work.
I was very interested to hear your comments about number 2, which is the sort of format I am more comfortable with. I used graph paper scanned in to deaden the difference between the sea and the models colour and wanted to give her a slight androgonous feel witht he harsh tones!
Thanks again..very encouraging 8)
I am only a newbie on here although have had a love of photography for years. My own personal experience is that, like Mark and Alan says-you have to handle the different make of camera’s in the flesh, see how they feel in your hand. My husband would never buy any power tools without picking them up and seeing how they feel  How the weight feels in your hand, where the buttons and other gizmo’s are-are they easy for you to use?All these things are really key. I think camera’s are the same. You know as soon as you put one in your hands if its the right weight and balance and should feel like an extension of your hand. Doesnt have to be feather light. I also think that when you get up to a certain level of camera’s like the DSLR-whatever the make, they all have specs to recommend them. I love Nikon lenses and the Sigmas lense as well, others would love the Canon or another make!
Haha – well of course Kaka is universal   but in this case its new Zealand Maori for ‘Parrot’ as the plants flowers imitate the beak of the Kakariki Parrot-arent I sad!!
Hi Soda- thanks for that and yes now that you mention it I can see where the loss of defintition is-TBH I have D200 and just had it set for automatic including flash as well. Am a total newbie
Great critisism and a good starting point for me to learn to really look at detail and not rush! Thanks for the warm welcome also! I am glad I found this forum.
