Thanks for the reply but a friend of mine had a spare shoe that fit perfectly! If I ever do use DML I’ll be sure to let you know of my experiences

sorry to hijack this tread but is it possibly to calibrate a laptop monitor? I have tried using adobe gamma but I do not have control over the contrast of my laptop screen only the brightness and so can only complete some of the steps. I have a sony vaio fj 1s.

Thanks for the advice folks I decided to use a different raw file and start from scratch this time from a different angle so the branches on the left are not a problem. Also I think the last pic was dark because my laptop monitor was a bit tpp bright. Hope you thinks its an improvement!

Thanks Ryan and Rob I agree that the colours are much better now and are actually a bit more representitive of what they looked like on the beach that day!

Thanks Rob I did a little editing increased the saturation and applied an unsharp mask filter to the surfer and the spray nearest him. How does it look now? I really appreciate the advice

    Thanks folks.
Ryan, I used the 40-150mm Zuiko lens with my Olympus E-500. I was at the maximum focal length of 150mm which gives an equivalent focal length of 300mm because of the 2x crop factor. So there is a fair bit of zoom there I guess. I’ll have a play around with PS tonight see if I can get some more vibrant colors.

Thanks guys I should explain that I had no tripod with me so I used a bench to set the camera on hence the wall in the way! I’m learning through this forum about the benefits of choosing the correct time of day to shoot. This type of night shot is something I enjoy trying to get right so I’ll try again but you might have to settle for O’Connell bridge next time!!

As for the ghost I’m a little freaked out now too

Thanks for the comments I know what you mean about the meat in the frame but thats what made this fella come out of the shadows so I can’t really complain!

    Thanks for the comments guys

The camera was on shutter priority with a shutter speed of 1sec for which the camera selected a aperature of f/3.5, which is the maximum of my lens. This was one of my first attempts at night photography and I really don’t know too much about it next time I’ll try a smaller aperature see what happens. How bout this for a crop? Please feel free to edit my photo I changed my profile to allow editing, never realised it was set like that.

Macchu Picchu Peru. Taken with my trusty nikon coolpix 3100. I did some tricking around with photoshop to change the contrast. The best thing about this picture for me is that there are no people in it which I couldn’t believe because the place was fairly busy.

*Edit: Resized picture and hosted on the forum gallery

Anyone else got the twin lens kit? Bought myself a Christmas present of it. Very happy so far though haven’t had the opportunity to use it much (weather/work/family etc).

Hi Reic I’m considering this exact same kit for myself. I’ve read that the viewfinder is quite small. How do you find it? I’m heading into town at the weekend to hopefully try out a few cameras before making up my mind but its always nice to get somebody elses opinion.
