Thanks for the comments. Yes, the crop is an improvement. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about the missing arm. It’s not on the original neg either

    Hi Bertie,
Thanks for the comments – much appreciated! Yes, I can see your point about retro/modern not combining too well. It never occurred to me before. I have some more pictures (including the winning cow) from that day; I must scan them when I get a chance.

I have mine in two folders, one film per sleeve. Fo the sleeves, see here:
    Hama Filing Sheets
I number each film with the year and a sequential number, for example 06-10 for film number 10 of year 2006. For most films I also write some information (location and date) onto the sleeve. I also write the film number on the envelope with the prints. I’m German
I used to write the numbers on every single print, but I gave that up some time ago – I have been living in Ireland for too long now

It looks MUCH better at home! I must remember that when commenting.

I like the composition and wide format. Nice Sky also! On my work PC the foreground looks a bit too dark, but that is probably just the monitor.

I’m also from an I.T. background, but haven’t converted to digital photography yet. I think FrankC is right in that Internet forums usually attract more technical minded people.

I agree that it might be better without the sky. Also, the horizon looks slightly curved and personally, that would annoy me. I like the colours, though!

I like it as it is, footsteps, sky and all. Just a pity about the boots, they really do distract.

I don’t know what but something is not right in the middle of this photo.

Can you explain? Is it something in the photograph that actually looks odd or is it more the scene that “is not right”?

depending on the quality of the capture, would be interested to see a landscape crop to see their expressions

I never thought about a closer crop to be honest. I guess the quality may not be there. I took this in my “early” years and if I remember right, I used a 200mm Praktika manual fixed lens probably at f4. I will try it though when I get a chance.

Thanks for the comments – it’s one of my favourite shots. I think the pose of the man on the right is especially interesting. Did you see his feet and the way he holds the stick?

Yes I think it was a Kodak film. As for developing, I don’t know – some lab did it. Don’t even remember which one. It was nine years ago

    Hey Marcus, Wie geht’s? :)

    Danke, gut :D
Thanks for all your kind words – I have to try to get more into photography again. All my stuff on the website and posted here is old. I have been taking mostly holidays snaps over the last year or two and even those were not the greatest  I suppose interests and priorities change over time. Must do some work now for the book, hopefully that will revive my interest in photography!

Lovely photograph, is this a neg scan or a print scan?

Just curious where in Kerry it is?

Thanks, it’s a neg scan with some levels enhanced in Photoshop Elements. And it’s on the Beara Peninsula. I put the location into Flickr:

It’s not exact, but as best as I remember it.

Nice one, looks like HIE, am I right?

Sorry, I don’t know what HIE is  I don’t remember what film I used (I’ts a few years ago and I only ever took two rolls), but I can check the negs.

sorry Marcus, I need new glasses

Don’t worry about it: both Marcus and Gunther are common first names in Germany. They are also common family names  (Gunther more so than Marcus). So it’s even confusing for Germans
