I agree. Great concept, just a bit weird with the halop on the right – seems oversharp to me too!
Otherwise top notch – much more interesting than the average kids’ ‘overly-staged / cherub’ portraits!
I deliberately cut the top of the head off in the first one. I thought there was too much white space in the original edit. My gf agrees with you though!
The hair was a glitter dye mix. In colour her hair is blonde, with a blue clump on top. It looks kinda cool, but I think it’s great in b&w. On that note, the models hair went green afterwards – just a perfect square bit on top. She didn’t care at all! She just went back with the stylist and they fixed it for her! What a trooper!
Some great photos here – especially considering the ISO limitations of your current camera and widest aperture of the lens you used; It’s really fantastic stuff!
You’ve got the lot here really – they’re sharp, bright and interesting. Not to mention that each one is visually different from the last. I’m really Impressed – the Academy is notoriously dark and you came out with a great selection. I reckon that if you wanted to, you could approach some of the music blogs in Dublin and get yourself access to some bigger gigs. You might need some faster lenses, but you’re onto a winner!
The lens will work on the D60, but it will not autofocus. It has no built in motor, so you’d have to focus yourself with it.
The alternative is the new 70-300 f4-5.6 AF-S VR..
At it’s cheapest new, it’s over e500, before taxes and shipping. That will autofocus itself on your camera.
Make a name for yourself shooting small gigs, get lucky with some good pics, get someone with influence to get you a pass for the smaller venues and hope that they do the same for the O2. You won’t get one unless you’re working for someone, and even then there’s no guarantee that you’ll get in/get into the pit – you could be shooting from the balcony!
But if you want a quick way to do it, know that there isn’t one, unless you know someone VERY important, personally at the O2.
If you’re using it in TTL mode, you can only adjust the EV level, as far as I know.
But it in Manual, and assign it a Group (A or B) and from the commander menu you can adjust the flash output in more detail from there.
The zoom can only be adjusted on the device itself!
You won’t get it in Gunns anyway. I asked before myself. They can order, but it’s pricey.
Truth be told they’re fairly pricey anywhere anyway, unless you get a secondhand one.
There was a guy who gave up looking for one and bought a second hand welders mask instead (cheaper too) removed the glass and cut it down to cover his lens. Got some great results. He reckoned it was above 10 stop too!
