Well the flash gun makes things a lot easier but im not sure if i would say its essential. if you dont have one it would definitely be worth an experiment or two using a desk lamp pushed close to the drops while your shooting..

    The lense I use is a canon 100mm 2.8, nice n sharp!!!

I like it, the blue brings just the right amount of attention to the eyes. The left side of the face seems a little bright (but maybe thats what you were going for) and i would definitely get rid of that finger…

    Thanks for the feedback,

Here is a (blurry) pic of the setup.. :P

The flash has a home made grid over it and is on a low setting but very close to the milk making the light fall away very quickly, fired the flash using a pc sync cord.. The drops were dropped from about 12 inches above the milk. To keep the colours interesting i swapped every second colour, blue, red, blue, red etc. which helped to keep the colours in the milk separated..

Thats all i can think of for now, if anyone has any more questions ill be happy to answer…

Here is a link to my full set of milk drops on flickr..

ok just found these on my hard drive, some of these are taken from the dropper rather than bouncing out of the water.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, i would encourage anyone who’s really interested in it to try it themselves as its a lot easier than you might think, hardest part is focusing because your not actually focusing on the water drop but through the water drop as it acts like a lense, once you get that right (like i said lots of trail and error) and sort out your timing (not too hard) every photo you take will look pretty cool.

I got a bunch from this shoot that i really like but this is my favorite, ill see if i can find some more and post them on this thread..

If anyone has any questions im more than happy to help out.
