Intial reports/reviews on test models of this new camera are great. See the review below from Andy Rouse a wildlife photographer based in the UK. I would trust his reviews 100% as he is always spot on.
I use a 7D and while its a great camera the noise at higher ISO’s lets it down in my opinion. What are other peoples experiences??
I used a 450D previously so was a big step up. If I find myself shooting wildlife on damp/murky days and have to bump up the ISO I always find myself slightly dissappointed with the noise in the images at 800ISO and above.
This new version seems to have fixed this issue, now to decide if its worht going for or keep my money and keep saving for a prime telephoto…
Heres a piece I wrote on the trip with some photos. Yellowstone is an amzing place….the best place ive ever been…bar none. I could spend months there but im not sure my wife would agree. Winter would be a great time to visit. The park opened the day before we arrived so we were lucky.
Seeing the wildlife is number one for me, the photography is a close second.
Thanks for all the replies. No problems at all. They did do a hand search coming through New york on way back because they werent sure what the trail camera was on the xray.
No snow mark…they had had some the week before but it was bone dry and cool for the week. Its -41 degrees celsius there this week though….
Nice set of images. Im accredited with Munster rugby too for some of the games.
Im shooting with a 7D and a 100-400mmL F4-5.6. I am always envious too of the pro’s, for really tip top sports shots, especially under lights I think you definetly need F2.8. But as you said budgets don’t allow so we make do. Its a great learning experience though to start with a ‘poorer’ lense and move upwards. When I started the lenses I were using were not great but it makes you think about ISO, shutter speeds and how they are related etc a lot more
Well, the advice I got was excellent. Headed into Knockreer estate this morning at dawn, its literally just across the road from the cathedral. About 800m in there is a crossroads of paths and a huge field to the right, adjacent to the woodland. It was foggy and all I could see were cows but I was told this was a good spot…I hung around for a bit and the fog lifted a little. Spotted something way off in the distance and a quick look through the 400mm lense told me it was a stag. I made my way across the field, from tree to tree, using them as some bit of cover and managed to get within 100 yards…he knew something was there but hung around for a little bit and got some resonable pics through the fog before he trotted off. A little later a few much smaller stags and about 20 doe’s arrived but they clocked me pretty quickly.
But anyway if anyones heading down this seems a good spot…I was told this evening that there are few more big stags further down in the estate toward the river.
Also across the road from the main entrance to muckross there is one very big stag and plenty of does…only spotted them this evening but im told they are there quite a bit. Might head out there in the morning but its a big green field with very little cover so I dont fancy my chances of getting to close.
