Thanks to Mark and Noel for their votes. As you said I left it a bit late but no matter we had a fun day. She didnt win but that appears to be the power of Facebook friends. Thanks to anyone else who voted for her.
Regards,
Matt.
Thanks for the reply Jenny and a happy new year to you. No much interest in my garden but its close by and showing well in 2 front gardens in a housing estate. The guy that identified and ringed it is a BTO man so he doesnt mind the interest. Was speaking with him earlier. Different groups of birders there every day, just as well its a cul-de-sac. First time I have seen feeders in front gardens. It loves xmas pudding.
Didnt know they had them in Belfast zoo, that would probably explain how I saw
this swan in Newry. When in zoos like that they tend to come and go as they please
but are normally very territorial.
Not really sure if this is the same species but caught my eye at the time.
Not the best, but I think you can still see the red beak. Not a good camera phone.
Love your Coscoroba swan picture and was just wondering where you photographed
it. They are native to South America are rarely outside of there, except in captivity.
London Wetland centre has some. Some time ago I was walking along the Newry canal
and saw a mute swan with what appeared to be a white swan or goose with a red beak.
This started me investigating the species but gave up as none of the birders seemed
to spot it. I took a photo on the mobile and have it somewhere still.
Very sad news indeed about Danny. Just heard on the local radio that they
will send 2 balloons up this evening with black streamers attached. Think
I also heard on there that he had been up in a balloon at the weekend
photographing Trim Castle from the air.
Great to meet all on Saturday and put faces to names, and to finally see
the PLANK live. Plenty of ground covered and a few photographs taken.
As for the early nights, well you could almost believe that as the absence
of watering holes was pretty obvious. Sorry now I didnt stay over as Turi
did such a good job of dinner, next time perhaps.
Well guys thanks for having me, very enjoyable and informative and hope
to see you all again on a further trip.
Hoping to make it down on Saturday morning for the meet-up.
This is dependant on getting over this dose I have, which is
keeping me firmly tied to the house at the moment. The forecast
for Saturday is pretty ok.
The coordinates for the hostel for anyone using sat nav are
54.06.34.40N 6.02.33.70W.
As an aside, what lens would people recommend as an all rounder
for this type of trip. Have 24-105 and 70-300 to choose from?
Thanks to Brian for organizing this.
