Great idea. Like the sound of it a lot. Would definitely be interested.

One suggestion if people are put off by the price of the framing. Could you give us a picture sample of whats acceptable to you and we could get our photos printed and framed? Would this work? Naturally, the cost of transportation to your premises would be then borne by the photographer?

Maybe you’re right. I should be more flexible on framing. I suppose that a simple black frame is the best option. The only thing I don’t want is different colour frames that would just mismatch on the wall.
So let’s say black frame of your choice. To be delivered or dropped in to the shop.
To be honest, doesn’t look like there’s a whole load of interest so far. We need more photos uploaded to this thread and go from there…that doesn’t cost anything!
Thanks to you guys that have posted. They look great.

Ok I’ve looked into a few things, and it looks like this the best way to do it:

Step 1: Post images to this thread (any image related to Galway, landscape, building etc.. With a description and image name)
Step 2: Once a few images are up, the best ones will be chosen for display.
Step 3: If your image is chosen, go to http://www.photobox.ie and order your print in a “timeless frame” in brown. You choose the size (€58 for 25x20cm, €68 for 40x30cm) +’€7.50 shipping.
Step 4: Get the framed print delivered to the coffee shop…I’ll give you the address. Or if you live in Galway, come in and drop it off.
Step 5: Your image is displayed on the wall for the world to see with the description, photographer details and price of your choice.

The images will be displayed on the wall for 6 months minimum or until it sells, if not sold after 6 months, I get the option to change it with a new one, giving other photographers the chance to sell theirs. Your framed print will be sent back to you.

If your image sells, I will let you know straight away and pay you immediately. To answer john’s previous question, if photo gets lost or stolen, I will cover the original framing cost.

I get about 100 to 150 customers a day so you’ll get good exposure.

There’s even a free cup of coffee in it for those who get their photos on the wall ;)

    Get posting your photos!

    Thanks for the support guys.

As to framing costs etc… I haven’t looked into it yet. I wanted to see if there was any interest in the idea first.
I am thinking something like photobox.ie. I has some nice “timeless frames” (http://www.photobox.ie/shop/wall-decor/timeless-framed-prints” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;)
A good size would be the 40x30cm (That’s the size of the print, not the frame). This is €67. May still sound a bit too pricey?
If anyone has any suggestion please let me know. I was thinking photobox was a good option, as it is accessible to everyone, and each frame would be identical.
Please bare in mind that at all times the print and frame remain the property of the photographer who has provided it, and at any time can be taken back.
The other option would be for me to get all images, and get them printed and framed myself, but somehow have to get payment from everyone would get complicated.
But anyway, for now, let’s get the ball rolling and get some pictures up on this thread. I will look more into the logistics of it all.

And also, may I add, each photographer’s name and details will be displayed with each image.

    Hi,

I am a Nikon man but absolutely love my 50mm f1.4. Especially for portrait photography.
It’s also a good way to improve your composition as you are unable to change the focal length but have to physically move around to suit the angle you’re looking for. I have ounce shot a whole wedding with more or less the 50mm. Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I would love to get involved. I am an experience wedding and studio photographer, and would like to try new stuff such as sport etc.. to expand my portfolio. I haven’t done much sport photography but have ample technical knowledge and equipment and am confident I would be more than capable for the job.
Feel free to contact me (contact info below).
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Try Barker Photographic in Cork (http://www.barkerphotographic.ie). Really good to deal with and next day delivery. Black paper background is around €70.
    Hope this helps.

I also recommend photobox.ie. Their prices are reasonable and quality very good. Delivery is usually pretty quick.

How about doing an offer like spen X amount on prints and get the CD for images for free.
    I do think €20 is a bit much. I would definitely work out a price structure i.e €X for 10 images, €X for 20 etc…
    I hope this helps.
