    Thanks for the advice folks.

Since upgraded to Nikon D7000 which I am very happy with. Still looking at lenses though the Nikon 80-200 is doing me ok at the moment. A few shots taken with the new camera..

Have tried a few GAA shots, will post them up in a separate thread..

    Thanks sndipo,

It’s hard to get a good shot of Slievemore. Here’s one from another shoot from a slightly different angle

I have a few on the laptop taken down on the beach so must process some of them,

Great shots. Wondering what lens you are using? Looking at getting into a bit of sports photography myself. Have an 800-200mm f4.5/5.6D lens which I’ve used to shoot a parkrun that takes place locally. I’m not sure it’ll be fast or long enough for something like GAA.

Caught in two minds about this one. The light on the hills is superb but there is something not sitting right with me about the sky and reflections in the sea, it all looks a tad over-processed. Love the composition and it’s a spot I really have to visit.

Shots like this always appeal to me. It’s simple and nicely processed. Think you have a dreaded dust spot in the center of the horizon.

Beautiful shot, I’m assuming it’s down around Glendalough somewhere.

Absolutely love the conversion, I can never seem to get a B&W conversion looking right so would love to know how you done the conversion.

Very much on the dark side for my liking. Horizontal isn’t straight on the 2nd shot and there is no real foreground interest (this is something I struggle with in landscapes myself). What part of Muckish was that on?

    Thanks for the feedback Dave.

One of the things I love about Achill is it’s constantly changing weather.. sunny one minute, overcast the next. Makes for great light on the landscape – if only I had the skills to capture it!

Plenty of potential in the location. The first one if my preference, like the texture in the water and the colours in the sky. The second image is a bit cold for my liking..

Great debate there folks that makes for some good reading on the topic.

I’m going to get some shots printed (12×8 and 12×10) on Photobox. I’ve done my editing in Photoshop, saved as SRGB and have changed the setting on Photobox to prevent them doing any image enhancement.

Looking to print of a few shots to frame and another couple as posters (for my daughter). I see Photobox gives an option of Matt and Gloss, just wondering if anyone has compared both finishes and if there are any recommendations as regards which to use?

    Thanks for the feedback.

Aidy, working (slowly) on a piece on Croaghaun on Achill Island. No idea when it’ll be done though!

Something a wee bit different and I really like I. I’m particularly intrigued by the texture of the sea from the long exposure.

Visually, it’s very appealing and might be one for the wall?

My mind is telling me that the horizon is not straight but I think that is just a trick of the eye due to the curved sea-front. The mountains on the horizon are just fantastic . Is that looking across at the Iveragh peninsula from Beara?

    That’s a shot an a half!

Beautiful soft light. I really love the house perched in the middle of the rugged landscape.

    No problem,

Look forward to seeing the alternative compositions.

This doesn’t really do a whole lot for me.

The lighthouse is somewhat lost in the image and it looks like you were fighting with the conditions a wee bit.

I do like the movement in the water but it appears that the physical layout of the location limits what you can do as regards composition.
