Well spotted it has been flipped in PS i just thought it looked better pointing to the right.
Mick
Well, it doesn’t alter the fact that the composition is good, although I wouldn’t have flipped it myself. Howth looks a little ‘confused’ to my eye ;)
Actually did you notice the graffiti on the other side of it? I wasn’t impressed (it was there last weekend). It’s never been touched before (as far as I know).
I brought my digital camera (Canon Powershot) to a couple of gigs, one in The Village (Jimmy Barnes), where I wasn’t searched, another in the Point (Iron Maiden) where I was. In the second case I’d put a 16mb card in the camera (with a 1GB card in my pocket) so if they’d asked me to remove the card then I would have done so. As it happened, the security guard found the camera when frisking me on the way in & asked what it was, I told her it was a phone.. ;)
I’ve come back to this shot a couple of times so I really should say something about it! It’s very good, as has been mentioned already it has an ‘edgy’ feel to it. For some reason it reminds me of the video for an old Oasis song called ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, it does have a ‘rock n roll’ feel to it. The collage in the background is great, the whole thing is great. Well done.
oooh i like this alot :) , lovely perspective, great composition, conversion, love the contrast. I really like the shadow on the bottom third – very balanced shot Peter. Did you print this yet ?
Thanks Alison – I haven’t printed it yet, can’t wait to see it printed up big though :)
It’s a great portrait – whether ‘self’ or otherwise, you’ve done a good job. The second one is better IMO, less clutter but I think it’s dark & moody, wouldn’t look out of place on an album sleeve.
Nice shot! Really strong b&w there. What are your thoughts on the area of solid shadow in the bottom third?
I like it as it worked out pretty much as I’d hoped it would – with some light streaks going across the bottom from the traffic. I’ve some colour shots which obviously have some detail in that area (but I like B&W!). Thanks!
Very good – nice contrast in the sky & the composition works well with the curch slightly off-centre. The only thing I’d change is the drop shadow in the frame (I like the frame otherwise!)
It was late afternoon, so the sun was quite low & it had just rained. What I like about it is how it captures the atmopshere of the place, for me anyway. I was using Fuji Superia 400 film on this one (I think).
I like the second version – the high contrast effect is good & the background detail is gone which makes it less distracting – emphasis is placed on the couple. Good technique.
