Thanks all – looks like I’m best leaving these things to people who know!

It’s for the IPF Yearbook – they ask for CMYK. Last year I didn’t bother to convert and the picture they printed had a strange colour balance!

Also an 80 to 100 mm lens would probably be better for this type of tight head shot. The 50mm lens may be making his nose
seem a little longer than in reality because you had to move in close.

    Cheers

Thanks emjay – I was confused why a shot taken with a 50mm might display the distortion you’d normally associate with a wide angle! This shot was taken at the end of the shoot (hence my subject was more relaxed) and I didn’t bother changing lenses. I’ll make sure I change lens next time!

Do you mean the DA Star 16-50mm F2.8? Looks great but not exactly in my budget at the moment! :D

    That’s the one!

I managed to sell the Samsung GX-20. If it hadn’t been for the fact that I have a bag full of Nikon lenses going back 20 years, I would have kept it – it’s feature set is amazing in comparison to the so-called equivalents from the big manufacturers. I only took a few test shots to make sure the camera and lens were working properly, but I was amazed at how solid the camera was – it felt like it came from a class above.

And the Pentax standard 16-60 f2.8 zoom just won lens of the year from Amateur Photographer.

It seems like you can get great image quality and value for money in one package if you look at Pentax/Samsung. (It’s also surprising to see that the Pentax K20 sells for slightly less than the Samsung!)

Glad you like your camera. Enjoy! :D

    Here’s a few cropped versions:

Thanks guys. I agree with you both about the need for a crop. Funny how you sometimes don’t see these things until someone with a fresh eye points them out!

I’d like to keep the guitar case in as it’s part of the reality of busking, but this does mean I’d have to also keep the distracting break in the wall to the right of the frame. Maybe I’ll try a little crop to see… :)

Thinking about it now, if I’d taken the shot from a lower angle it might have been better too, even if this meant the guitar case and the busker would be intersecting each other even more! Goes to show, a little more thought when taking the photo might have improved this shot. And this subject wasn’t going anywhere so there was plenty of time to get the composition right at the point of taking the picture.

Thanks for your comments – very much appreciated.

Has a Bladerunner kind of feel to it.

It’s a very cool bridge shot – it has that nightmarish post industrial feel to it.

Love the perspective — works really well. I’m glad someone has the guts to roll around the floor taking shots!

Now at €600 or make me a reasonable offer. I need the money…

But if you buy the duty free in the airport then they’re not to know! You can buy suitcases in the duty free section and fill them up with all sorts of junk from the shop…

Aer Arann have routinely checked the weight of my carry on at Waterford Airport the last 4 trips. It ended up in the hold the first time around. Yet on the return trip the staff at Luton haven’t yet weighed it!
