Biography

Biographical CV My photography covers many facets of the medium. I started as a hobbyist in my native Ireland in 1980 when I discovered that by using a camera I could realise a desire to make pictures of the landscape around me. In 1983 I moved to London where I attended a night course at the Central School of Art in Holborn where I was introduced to Black & White film and printmaking. During this time I also began to photograph in a more documentary style and produced an exhibition and a booklet for the GLC about the long term unemployed in the Lambeth area. In 1985 I attended the London College of Printing where I received a Diploma in Photojournalism. From 1986 to 1988 I worked as a freelance assistant with a variety of photographers, both in studios and on location, learning about the commercial side of photography. In 1989 I began to work shooting portraits and reportage for editorial clients such as ID Magazine, Time Out, Taste, Tatler, and Design Week, also for design companies producing brochures for clients such as Vauxhall, Egon Ronay, and Edwin Shirley Staging, and with ACE Records photographing up and coming musicians. In 1994 I arrived in Tenerife where I ran a bar/restaurant in Puerto Santiago for 8 years, during this time I continued to pursue my photography by mounting exhibitions and selling prints. I also won 8 awards from the Santiago del Teide council for my photography of the area. In 2003 I moved to Jersey where I worked as a bathroom designer for 3 years during which time digital technology caught up with me and my days of working in the dark with smelly chemicals were replaced with a Canon DSLR and an Apple MAC. Leaving Jersey in 2006 I spent one & a half years in various locations in the British Isles where I developed my new found digital skills photographing the landscape. I returned to Tenerife in November 2007 and started working professionally again. I work with an eclectic variety of clients covering everything from private commissions, portraits and weddings; editorial work for magazines and newspapers; commercial assignments with business and local authorities; fine art prints with La Musa de Adeje gallery; and stock photograph sales through Alamy.com In recent years I've also been exhibiting in various group shows; 2013: Fotonoviembre, Bienal Internacional de FotografĂa de Tenerife. 2015: Exhibition in Summer Exhibition, Circulo de Bellas Artes, Santa Cruz. Exhibition in Ten Diez Movement, Baobab Suites, Costa Adeje. Fotonoviembre 2015. Exhibition in Certamen de Fotografia Informativa y Documental, Reflejo I-V, La Musa de Adeje. 2016: Exhibition in Ten Diez, Boabab suites, Costa Adeje. El Puertito, B/W, La Musa de Adeje. 2017: Participant in Photography on a postcard, The Printspace. London. 2019: Incognito, Public arts initiative in aid of the Jack & Jill foundation. Solomon Gallery, Dublin, Ireland.
