Thanks for the reply’s lads , I am the first to admit that they are over done a little, but to show these rooms as I saw them would not have done the colours justice, its amazing what a bit of levels, satur/contrast adjustment does to a shot like these it does give the colours an unreal effect but thats what I wanted.
Would these work as well as a Black/white set ?
ps I wasn’t sure which section to put them so settled for this one. (and I like to stir the pot fair play to ye for commenting )
Great set of shots Merv, and the detail that goes with them, I remember a few years ago asking a street guy, if I could take his picture after talking to him for about 10 mins he nearly went through me. That stopped me for awhile asking.
Great set of images, “every picture tells a story” I think you have the knack for this type work here Sinead ? I loved the earlier one with your dog aswell.
jb7 – both no5 and 6 were taken in Hardegons Pub in O’Connell st Sligo I have another 1 or 2 that I will look for, I spent about three hours waiting around for characters to come in, that time
The ” Here’s looking at you” shot I thought I posted here before, but will do again.
Let me know if the third one is back ok, I was doing some slight adjustments on it, so the link changed.
No2 was cropped at the bottom because of a head sticking up that didn’t suit the composition.
I my self like no1 because of the way the two old bookies are just standing there waiting for someone to put a bet on and the other bookies are doing something and then there’s the boy looking at the tote, it sums it up in a way the two old boys are of a different generation.
Seen it on your flickr stream Martin, I come over to PI the odd time and post, and Im from Boyle in Ros. to be honest I think it lacks a central focal point your looking at the whole pic at once and not at something to lead you in. Hope im not to critical.
Thanks for the comments, this is an old neg of shots i took in the 80s . I hadn’t even printed this one. I wasn’t the best darkroom technician still learning at the time. So it was stored away in a neg sleeve for an least 20yrs and the neg had suffered, so I only put a texture in to mask this deterioration, also this was scanned with a cheap scanner so resolution is not great and the shot was not sharp in the first place.
The only reason I posted this is because of the look of the boy and father beside him minding him.
Ya I like to, but I think the foreground is to busy and is not complementing the main part of the shot which is the fort and horizon line, I would crop above the rocks which to me would give a far more pleasing shot.
