I got a few shots outside Dublin but I really didn’t have the time/resources(the ability to drive) to really go to town on it. I definitely want to go back and beef it up and maybe ask around publishers and see if there’s any chance of making something of it. That would be great :)
Hey guys, sorry i haven’t posted in aaaaages! Been a bit distracted, so much has happened since i posted this in May! anyhoo i got 79% for the thesis! I’ve never got over 72% even for just a single module so to get that in my thesis is amazing! Got a 2.1 in my degree overall which i’m over the moon with! Pictures, pictures pictures, so many to post. Just back from a week long trip on the Nile with my lovely girlfriend, as you’ll have seen from her lovely shots. I’ll get round to posting mine eventually :) For the meantime I think i’ll post my best pics from my time with Inpho sports photography. I did an 8 week placement with them and it was a fantastic experience, really enjoyable. Best bit was being in Croke Park for the Leinster Hurling Final and having free roam of the entire stadium! I’ll post the best pics from the placement over the next few weeks as well as the Egpyt shots and some reworked shots from this thesis project. Thanks so much again for the lovely encouraging comments :)
haha yeah the pop up flash firing is really annoying and totally defeats the purpose of holding the external flash off to the side or wherever it may be. been looking at the net and there’s all sorts of mentionings of pocket wizards and cactuses, sounds like a bad night on the sauce to me :D If the Canon ST-E2 worked that’d be great but i don’t think it does with sigma, should work fine with your speedlight though, ya lucky fecker :)
ah feck! Didn’t realise twoz that time. I’m finished up me thesis on the Friday and i already have plans for the Saturday. booourns. so jealous of you guys gettin to go. But then again i’m heading to the last Moto GP race in Valenica so it’s all good 8)
Haha brilliant, i’m guessing number three had a stash of something in his pocket and only remembered as he was running past the Guards :D Or he left the kettle on :)
haha no i didn’t actually, although I did in the decent cigar emporium, lovely fellas in there. Gonna pop into them tomorrow or Thursday to buy a celebratory cigar for Friday :D
everyone started out where we are, gettin their first camera, trying things out and improving all the time. You can go from a FAS course to being a doctor so why not go from being an amateur enthusiast to a world famous commisioned pro? :D no harm in dreaming
There were a few who didn’t want their picture taken so I took their co-workers instead. The only one to outright refuse was the old fella in The Irish Yeast Company, he’s sick of people coming into ask him about the place so he just handed me a piece of paper with the history etc. on it. Other people I had to chase a bit and keep coming back to them but that was fine becuase they have jobs to do and I didn’t want to be disturbing them, this project is about respecting these people after all. Other than that it went pretty smoothly, most people were more than happy to talk to me and be photographed. When I started out I had the intention of comparing the modern with the old, i.e. get a photo and interview with Wests jewellers and then contrast that with one from say Swarovski or something like that. But after trying to go that route for a few days I had enough of “You’ll have to get in touch with our PR department and they’ll provide you with some images” or just “No photography allowed on the premises”. So yeah that was annoying to say the least but it also gave me another angle to my project, the cold uncaring profit hungry modern world and the kind and thoughtful old world. I’m sure i would have found some modern shops happy to talk ato me and take a picture but after trying several i just gave up.
Awww you guys, i’m all blushing reading those comments
Thank you all so much for the kind words, it’s really appreciated, especially given the talent on this site. I could spend the rest of my life doing this, the main thing holding me back at the moment is I can’t drive so I rely on public transport to get me around but it’s actually been pretty good. I got to Kildare and back in less than 4 hours yesterday and got 4 shots in the process :D I’d love to travel the world and do the same in other countries, so basically National Geographic please :o
Thanks a million again guys, huge smile on my face right now :D
