Thanks – I do have a semi-decent film scanner but I wouldn’t mind just getting a disk with the images when I get them developed, mainly to help me edit the keepers from the crap, whenever I start scanning film I end up spending hours and hours! I was just wondering if any readers know who does a cheap develop and disk?
I’ve just posted up a Leica CL for sale, it’s a really nice M-mount body and cheaper than an M6 :)
I also have the corresponding 40mm summicron and 90mm elmar but I’m not sure if I’m going to hold onto them or not, let me know if you’re interested.
Hi, Is there a particular area you want to get involved in? maybe see if you can talk to some working photographers in your area and try get some advice from them. You’ve already got a BA in a creative field, (same one as me!) maybe just see what the opportunities are first.
Not sure if you’ve taken the plunge already but if not here’s my tuppence worth… despite the heavy price tag the equipment holds it’s value well so you don’t have too much to loose by investing in it if you buy used, the lenses make a big difference and can be astronomical but the 40mm Summicron is often overlooked and a real bargain (under €400) it’s an amazing lens, pin sharp, small and perfect, can’t recommend it highly enough for either film or digital. Also, the Leica CL is a great place to start for a rangefinder body, it’s cheaper than the M series bodies but still beautifully built, much more pocketable and it has a light meter.
The cameras are beautiful pieces of industrial design in themselves but the character of the images comes from the lenses so try get a good one to start with if you can.
Thanks David – beautiful camera, I would have been tempted to opt for the black one, it’s probably for the best though, I promised to stop buying 35mm cameras :-) Good luck with the sale.
