i like wider mounts, i hate seeing skinny mounts. so common for photographers to make the picture as big as possible then stick a small skinny mount around it

camera club stuff is generally 20*16 (approx 500*400) and looks well on an a4 print

slip in mounts are not for high quality prints really they are for events and gift type photography like schools pics etc

ordering mounts – well i cut mounts, for a camera club best thing to do is buy a whole bundle and let the members buy them in small batches from the club

mounting a picture- well lots of different ways

you can buy a hand held cutter to cut mounts yes, its a PITA, and you will ruin a bunch. i have a 25k computerised cutter for doing it

strand is one of many companies that will supply mounts, where you based?

you can export a slideshow from lightroom

your a little limited in what you can do though

powerpoint you can make a slide show that runs, again its not the most controlable though

actually any framer worth his salt, who understands his business does NOT price using this method. but rather material cost+running costs+ waste + markup

this is because the amount of work is not proportional to the selling price of the product

spray mount has NO place in a photographers arsenal of any kind

its expensive, its not permanent, its toxic and does a shite job :-))

if you wan something cheap and cheerful job, just use watered down PVA glue, let it go tacky and then use a roller to press down

Acid free is a marketing term, it means absolutely nothing

it is more important that the term conservation quality is used

conservation quality board meets the fine art trade guild standard.

acid free, is term used that the board is acid free when its shipped. the board still contains lignin which is a naturally occurring acid in wood. and although its acid free when it leaves the factory the lignin can activate over time

Just a small point though, this is the 4th thread that has been dug up by djjdomahony. the last response before that was 2011. please don’t just dig up old threads just to sell your products

personally i think there is a couple of approaches

1 minimalist simple frame and mount – then can use consistently across lots of images etc

    2. some images look waaaaay better when adding proper presentation, so complementary coloured mounts, and frames, design ques etc

ikea stuff is cheap as chips, BUT if your selling images or wanting them to last any length of time, DO NOT put them in ikea frames. the materials are really not the best

if you want some help with stuff give me a shout, i am based in dun laoghaire and can print, mount and frame most things

one thing you can do to keep the costs down

get a few frames of standard size made

then only get print and mount done each time and switch them in the frames

that way its much less expensive each time

the compromise is you making things fit in a standard size, which doesnt always work

here a bunch of colour management bits that come with the 750 too

i got a bunch of it8 targets and a gretag macbeth colour managaement app

also the version of siverfast is the full version, think there are some small limits in the 700 version

My understanding was that the glass was better on the 750,
the fluid mount doesnt even come with it
